Hi everyone,
I'm making this thread to see if anyone else is applying to Umass Amherst for fall 2017 acclerated nursing program?
Its a 14% increase! I'm fed up with educational institutions doing this by astronomical numbers. Wages never increase by any relative amount and yet we have politicians that want to defund the grants and extra resources to reasonably pay for the increases. This is what it means when those at the top start making those of us at the bottom pay out of pocket for something we already going into massive debt for as they continue to line their pockets. I really want to see a better option for assistance for nurses that are not in this for the added income and start recognizing our vital importance to QUALITY healthcare. Ok, rant over.

Fall 2

Professional Role of the Nurse (random days throughout the semester you have to be on campus but not many days)
I would definitely not suggest a 12 month program. This program is alot as it is...I can't imagine doing it in 12 months. It's fast pace but it's doable in 17 months. Plus we still get the regular breaks like winter break (month long) which is a MUCH needed break before the crazy spring semester.
The professors in this program and very understanding and many have been through this program themselves. They listen to our feedback and do whatever they can to help us. I think this program is worth the money. I was also going between this program and a 12 month and I chose this one because I felt like I would be getting more for my money. I would have more time to actually learn and comprehend the info instead of cramming for 12 months. Overall I am happy with my decision.
For anyone previously in or having finished the program: Can I please get a break down of classes per semester? I see that this program is 17 months. Does this mean that the classes are set up in a good structure? considering other programs are 12 months. Please advise, because I am trying to weigh my options in terms of affordability and being able to manage being in a full time program.
It's on the website under plan of study.

This is really good feedback, and this was actually what I was looking to hear. I can see the curriculum online but was wondering what the exact breakdown was.
Are the clinicals in hospital settings? Can you choose where you want to do them or are you placed based on grades etc.?
