About a LTC MD who is BAD NEWS

The last LTC I worked at had a Medical Director (MD). He would come to work in military fatigues and tell the nursing staff that he was a Colonial in the military and had to catch a plane at the Air Force Base to go to Washington to see the President of the United States. Other times he came in with a Jacket and shirt with a CIA emblem and flashed the nurses an FBI badge with his name and picture on it claiming to have been sent to the facility by the FBI to keep an eye on things. He even had his Medical Assistant at his private practice answer his cell phone as "Officer Jenny" and tell the nurses who called that the MD was on an FBI mission. The MD would even email the nurses that he was unavailable due to a mission he was on. To really keep us in tears he told us that he was dying of pancreatic cancer. Then there was the time where one of the employees had to bail the MD out of jail for beating his wife. One day I got fed up and called the Board of Medical Quality Assuarance. I was shocked to find out that this MD was a convicted felon, currently on 2 probations, 1 was for a felony the other for beating his wife. I called his wife who told me she was his X-Wife and said that the MD was a pathological liar and gambler. I guess that the MD was in the gambling halls when we were trying to get hold of him with his cell phone turned off so that he didnt get distracted while rolling the dice. Turned out he was not in the FBI, military, CIA etc (like they dont take convicted felons). He signed off physcials on employees he never examined & diagnosed someone with a fatal illnees that they did not have. He also took 3 Klonopins and 2 vicodins a day that were not prescribed for him. If he ever did return a call his speech would be all slurred and he would be taking about being shot at on an FBI mission. The owner of the LTC where this MD is over about 20 of them:o is aware, but doesnt care.

That is spooky and bizarre, but be careful. If someone is capable of playing out such delusions, your safety may be jeopardized. And, you are at high risk for a slander suit. Be very, very careful, and keep an attorney's number handy.

But Angelamac is right... caution is the word before you get too deep in his bullcrap. :stone

you are right he is not worth putting myself in jeopardy for.:o

He may be schizophrenic. Sure sounds like it anyhow. sad. and scary.

he certainly does sound schizophrenic and i am incredulous that he is allowed to remain licensed. perhaps you gave the reason already and i overlooked it, but why won't the facility fire him?

Surely you jest.

it is not joke. the board of medical quality assurance in california is the one who permitted the md to practice. for his first offense (forging another md's signature and stealing $150,000 from his own private disability insurance) he served a month or so in jail, then had his medical license suspended for a whole month (big deal), and had to pay $10,000 restitution, rec'd a felony conviction, and went on probation for 5 years. while on porbation he knocked his wife around her mom called the cops he was arrested, taken to jail, then his wife had an employee from the ltc drive her to the prison so she could bail him out. he had to go on another probation with another probation officer and go to anger managemnent, do community service, etc. for the spousal abuse charge. then before he had even completed his second probation, he was running around doing what i put in my first post and worse. yes his probation officer and her supervisor are both aware of the newest allegations, yet he is allowed to continue to practice until they complete there investigation which could take months. yes the owner, administrator are all aware of this and just acknowledge that they are aware. but yet keep him on. the owner of the ltc is rumored to be a convicted felon as well (i have yet to confirm this). the md, the owner and most of the employees were not born in the us, some have no legal right to be here. :uhoh3:

this is the most friggin' bizaare story i've ever heard. it truly boggles one's mind...who knows with our justice system today; the facility is probably afraid of a whopping discrimination lawsuit. but someone else needs to be involved in this; another agency, a letter to centers of medicaid/medicare services, your governor, attorney general.....someone who's not dragging their butts on this!!! :stone

We had a md that was drunk so much of the time that if you called him for orders he would say "you do anything that you think is right" and he would hang up....the don and adon would have a list of thing they wanted him to order when he came for his weekly rounds and he would sign off on anything with just a cursory look at ltc resident....thank goodness he made his bundle and retired....but get this the next md was very good and the don & adon had their nose out of joint for the longest time because he insisted on examination himself....

Two questions-

Could drugs be involved also?

Why are you still working there and jeopardizing yourself and your career? If he's that crazy and violent, who knows what else he's capable of?(I guess it's three questions actually.)

Good luck to you! You definitely need it.

P.S. What percentage of his antics would a nurse had to have done to get his/her license suspended? Probably very little. Food for thought.

these are all of the people i contacted

1.the department of health services

2. medi-cal

3. medicare

4. the board of medical quality assurance

the department of health services told me to contact his probation officer, medi-cal and medicare said to do the same thing. i certainly did that. his probation officer said they are not allowed to discuss the findings of their investigation with me. they said i cannot drop the complaint just cause i am scared of him. they will contact me only if they need more information or if they need me to testify against him. if they take action against his md license that info will be posted on the web site. and i can order transcripts from any court cases through the mail because here in ca they are public records. the police took a report but said unless he commits a crime in an fbi or colonial outfit they cannot do anything. as far as i know he freaked out when he found out i made a police report, called his home and told his sons to throw all of the guns, stun guns, uniforms, handcuffs, id's away. the probation dept. in his town was supposed to do a search, but the medical board tipped him off and he got rid of the stuff before anything happened (his sons told me about it). but he wore this stuff to several different ltc facilities that the company owned including his private medical practice and told everyone the same story. because people worry about their jobs i have no idea if they will talk during an investigation or not. he involved other people in his scams like telling medical assistants to impersonate fbi agents when they answered the phone for him, and involving another md in kickbacks. the case will rely on evidence. i did go to an attorney who said that it would cost me thousands to go after this guy and it could jeopardize my safety. based on that i dropped the idea of suing him civilly. yeah its bizarre all right. :uhoh21:

yes there are drugs involved. he takes 3 klonipins and 2 vicodins that are not prescribed for him at night. i have not been working with the company that employees him since dec. of 2003. i agree if a nurse had done what i had described she would have been delt with very severly by both her employer and the nursing boards. i have no idea why his employer, the department of health, and the medical boards who he is on felony probation with allow him to continue to practice medicine?????:o  initially his medical board probation officer was rude and nasty and all but accused me of lying and refused to meet me face to face or look at the evidence unil i called her supervisor. when i sent the complaint in writing a long with statements from 2 other witnesses then they took or appeared to have take my complaint seriously. like for a cna to get a job in ltc they have to get finger printed. and here this convicted felon is allowed to work with the elderly. makes no sense.

He said he has a satellite over YOUR house? You need to get a order of protection stat. Call the local media, the governor's office, the JAG office at the nearest military base, the FBI headquarters, your state BON, and your local ombudsman. Always be aware of your surroundings, check into self defense calsses and a concealed handgun permit, who knows when the satellite will beam down orders to take you out as his next mission.
