Abington Dixon SON : Waiting for my letter

Published

Hello everyone, Im new to this site. Im interested in hearing from prospective Abington DSON students. Has anyone received their acceptance letter for eve/weekend 2009 regular decision. Please let me knw. Thanks

I received my letter in beginning of December for evening/weekend. I applied during early decision period. Regular decision is notified by April, I think. I had all my pre-reqs done. The interview went well - everyone there seemed really nice. Good luck........hope to meet you all there!

Maryann

Hi Maryann,

I love watching Trauma! Life in the ER too, and it drives my BF crazy! Fortunately work is taking up a lot of my time now and they're offering a free CPR AED class, which helps. I also found iTunes has some student nursing podcasts and A&P reviews which help keep me focused and refreshes the material. I'll be taking Microbiology 4 days a week in May & June, so until then I'll try to focus on doing all those fun things I won't be able to do come September. It'll go by quicker than we think!

I just got a postcard in the mail from dixon saying that they received my acceptance fee and will forward other material later. Has anyone received anything else besides the postcard? Melachai - i'll have to check out iTunes, thanks! I loved Micro - it was an "easy" class - not really easy, but easier than some of the others. It was really interesting but now I am somewhat of a germaphobe, which I guess is a good thing. Swabbing things, putting them into a dish (agar), incubating them, and then figuring out which bacteria is growing!! it was fun and disgusting at the same time. Right now, we are trying to save for a vacation for the early part of summer since it might be the last time I have in the next two years!! it will go fast...........

I got that same postcard the first week in January. My experience with Dixon so far is that they respond promptly to questions and the answers have been helpful, so if I get too impatient for my packet, I can call and ask when they expect to send them out. I also learned that we will need about $1750 - $2000 above the tuition before the start of class to cover textbooks, equipment, fees etc. (the fees are broken out on the website here)

http://www.amhdixonson.org/apply_financial.html#chart

A friend of mine who started at Dixon last fall said that they do use PDAs and that the cost is incorporated into that $1750-$2000, but I don't know how they are going to work it for this year. I already got my stethoscope as a Christmas gift from my Bf, who did his research and got me a Littmann II Classic with my name engraved on it. I think he might be starting to regret it, because I've already checked his heart and respiration about 10x already! Just wait until I get a BP cuff and pen light!

My heart just sank....I was expecting a couple hundred for books but not 1750-2000. I guess I'll have to check out that financial chart (should have done that sooner!!) I have a Littmann too, but my name isn't engraved (I'll have to complain to my husband about that, LOL) I got a BP cuff too and for the first week the family was running from me...I don't know why - their arms only stayed red for a little while, LOL...I still haven't figured out the cuff yet and its too hard to practice on myself. If you get a chance, let me know when you get your package from dixon. I am hoping it contains paperwork about scholarships and grants cause I'm really gonna need that now. Thanks again for the info.

HI! I am also new to this site. I just had my interview at Abington on 2/6. I applied to the evening/weekend program for this fall 09. They told me that I would hear back by March 1st. But I am dying to know. I feel like there are so many aplicants that my chances may be slim because I don't have all my pre-reqs compelted yet.

Welcome Jen2Sul! Congratulations on your interview. In previous years, about 50% of the applicants interviewed were accepted. Good luck and I hope you get your letter in three weeks. I have been accepted for Evening/Weekend and I hope to see you there.

only 50%...I was hoping that they interviews less people :(

Well, from what I understand, they only interview about 10% of the people that apply, so your chances are improving. :) How many prereqs do you have to complete?

jen2sul... i didn't finish my prereq either, i have to do microbology, i'm taking it summer one. I did my interview 2/4 and they told me that i will hear from them by 3/1 too. we are in the same boat. i wish you luck and i hope we get to meet in person september. Evening and weekend class start september, day start august. i chose evening and weekend.

Stephb2,

I'm taking Microbiology this summer too at Montgomery County. Where are you taking yours?

I am finishing up A & P I and Dev Pyshc right now so then I have to take A & P II and nutrition Summer I and then a math...I feel like I wil get beat out by people that have less classes to take :(
