A Word to the Wise

Just a word to the wise: you never know who is reading your posts on Allnurses.com. You never know how your posts may influence a possible employment position, positivey or negatively. When you post, consider that your next boss may be reading and make sure that you want those words out there before you hit "submit." That's all I'm saying.

Specializes in Peds/outpatient FP,derm,allergy/private duty.

I think I'm OK (glancing furtively behind me ):coollook: I don't talk about nursing at all on Facebook or Twitter. It's an excellent reminder, though. It's very easy to forget how truly public our little chats are, that not all who are reading are our friends, and operate with the assumption that they will be there forever, visible by anyone.

Kind of sad that we live in a county of free rights and free speech, but have to receive reminders like this.

I feel that whatever I do in my own home on my time, is my business and they can go fly a kite.

There has to be a line between work and home.

Separation of church and state has been pushed for years so why not separation of work and home?

So true, sheesh seems like at least you used to be able to expect dinner and a movie first :smokin:

I'm not worried because I work for the best hospital in the world! All of my managers are amazing and (as far as I can tell) perfect in addition to being good looking. If I ever decide to have more kids (which I won't since that would mean having to take time off of work, and I would hate to do that) I will name each of them after one of my fabulous managers. More overtime, please! :D

YES! I had an HR manager call me and tell me that it was obvious that it was me posting on a thread regarding a coveted new grad program I was trying to get into. On a good note, she did state that she was impressed with my kindness and willingness to help others in my all nurses posts (I actually said, "that was the nicest thanks but no thanks I had ever recieved" whew!!!). And while I was not hired with this round she was holding on to my file for the future.

You can bet that I changed my name on allnurses after that tho. LOL!

Make sure your screen name does not include any part of your last name.

Never use your your real email always have a back up email then when people go snooping they won't find anything on you. First lesson in nursing CYA always less problems down the road. Sorry for sounding dishonest. I do belong to certain groups on yahoo nothing gross or illegal anything like that ( It's not even Media Related) for some of you wondering what I'm in to. But it may want a possible employer question me about it. And really i would have to tell then Its a Nun Ya ( Like None of your Biz ) You hire me for skills i have and as long as it's not effecting my job or the people i take care of not for what i do online. And i look at things a bit different. Like for instant I may work for you but you don't own me. Really people if you don't want people to know or find you use a different name and email. These are my thoughts use them as you wish.. Anthony

I can't tell you how many times and how often it occurs that someone posts something they wished thed hadn't.
