I laughed when I read this:

FYI, a small amount of swearing involved.
LOL! loved it.
I once had a pt rate her pain 10/10 and my doc said "if I cut your arm off with a chainsaw and beat you over the head with it- that would be a 10. Do you still think it's a ten?" Pt says well maybe just a 9! She got her epidural! No complaint either, the husband thought it was funny :/

I sooooo want to put this up in my facility. Someone else mentioned this would be very effective on drug-seeking patients. Well, that's all I pretty-much deal with in my line of work. When the coherent, calm opioid patient that just came in from laughing and smoking cigarettes with the other patients tells me that their pain is 10/10, I always inwardly shake my head and give a little sigh.

Oh yes, I saw this little gem a while ago. Just as funny now as it was then.
I did find a poster version of that scale and put it up at the Crossfit gym where I work out. "This is distressing, I don't want this to be happening to me at all" is now the catchphrase of choice when you've just found out exactly what manner of pain the Workout of the Day entails...
