hello everyone! i guess i'm late because everyone is well in to their classes with quizzes and lectures. this is the first week of school (quarter system) and like many of you here-used to be-i'm pretty scared. hearing over and over there is a 50% fail rate and this is the most failed class in this department aren't the greatest factors for motivation. i plan on giving this class my all so please look for me to be back and forth on this site because i can tell the encouragement is great. pray for me and wish me the best as i embark on this journey to becoming a nurse. started off as a pre nursing major, jumped into another fied and got a ba-telivision, film, and media studies-but i'm back to square one because nursing is a calling and passion and like my bestfriend told me today, "you need to face it!"

by the way the book we are using is anatomy and physiology seventh edition by seeley, stephens, and tate

good luck! don't let the fail rate scare you. when i started there were so many negative things going around. just try to stay positive and do your best. it is a hard class but it can be done.

Please help this is my second shot at taking this course, and I am so overwhelmed. The first test i made a 52 and the class average was a 58 the second test i made a 43 the class average was a 48. What am I doing wrong, should I memorize this stuff. I think when test time comes i freeze. Any tips on how to study. The third test is april 6th on the nervous system and endocrine system. We have one last test and a final. Total 4 test and a final and the lab grade is 30% of the final.

Yes. Memorizing the information is the whole purpose. Tape the lectures, and study every day. There is too much information to know just to go to class and not worry about really knowing the information. There is no way to pass the class without memorizing it. Good luck.

Well, we've had a humdinger of a turn of events - our professor had a quintuple bypass right after spring break, so now, in the middle of the semester, we've got a new professor! A lot of the students were really thrown for a loop, but I have to say that I like our replacement's lecture style a lot more. He's a lot more specific, especially where test items are concerned. I have a B in there right now, but I think the class will now be a lot less stressful!

Thanks, I really appreciate all the feedback I've been getting from you all on this site! I'm going to stay positive and like you said it's not impossible!

I feel your pain. My next exam is on the 7th and it is the Endocrine system and the lymphatic system. I am so confused on the endocrine system I just can't think straight. We haven't even started lecture on the lymphatic system which we probably won't get to until Monday. That means I'll have to know the endocrine system by Monday, and learn the Lymphatic system on Monday and Wednesday, then take the exam on Friday. I just don't know how I'm going to do this over the weekend and learn the Lymphatic system which she hasn't even began to lecture on. So far I've been doing well, but this endocrine system is truly unbelivable. I am so stressed.

As far as how to study, what I generally do is, tape the lecture then redo my notes from the tape. I also meet with a couple of study buddies right after class and we do index cards. It's really time consuming but well worth it. All of us have improved since the first exam. On the lab exam, we had to dissect a cat and do all of the muscles and the bones. Nothing takes the place of looking at the real cat and bones. For the lab exam, I was in the lab just about every evening studying with other people. On my first lab exam I got a '97' and on the next one I got a '101'. We had one extra point and I got 1/2 a point on that question.

I think the main advantage is that, I have an excellent teacher, even though she flew through the Endocrine system so fast that I don't understand at all.

Well, good luck and let's stay positive. We only have a couple more exams and it'll be over.

It is good you have lots of study buddies. All I can say is, I am thankful I am making an A on my own cause there are a lot of young kids in my class who dont want to apply themselves. There are many who have never been to the lab and they wonder why they didnt do good on those tests. I wish I could take night classes, and I probably will this summer. Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of young people who are very serious about school, but not the ones in my class.

We started discting the cats today. It wasnt bad at all. I shot all the pics while everyone else in my group was cutting, holding organs up, etc. I didnt have to get messy.

The smell was the worst part. YUK!!!

Ok guys tomorrow is the big day. :uhoh3: I have my exam on Nervous and Endocrine system. Also I have a lab quiz that is worth 10 points. I have studied my butt off this weekend, even got my sister in law to quiz me. All last night I was dreaming about axons, and action potiental. Everyone pray for me I need to make at least a 90 on this test. I will go in with a positive mind.
