A&P vs. Micro in summer

If you had to choose between taking A&P 1 and Microbiology in the summer, which one would you take?

I found A&P to be more time-consuming than micro. It's not that A&P is hard to understand - it's that A&P involves more massive memorization than micro. That said, don't underestimate micro either!

I took A&P I during the summer and I'm glad I did. It is just so much work that it was great to not be working on several other classes at the same time.

Hmmm....I think if it is a condensed version I might take Microbiology during the summer. That being said, if you take AP1 now, then when you have to take AP2 you are always ready to take it. AP1 is a lot of memorization and you will need to know it well to really get a firm grasp of the Phys part in AP2!

Yes, the difference would be that it would be a 8 week class and I'd either take it alone or with one other 8 week class (unsure). Any more thoughts?

I would not take either Micro or A&P along with one other 8 week class (concurrently) as it is a ton of information condensed down.

If your referring to the Anatomy portion of A&P (my school separates them into Anatomy & Physiology instead of A&P1, A&P2), it would be a toss of the dice for me. Anatomy was a ton of memorization but pretty straightforward. If you are talking about the second half (Physiology), I would definitely opt for Micro over the summer. I felt that Physiology was the most important prereq I could take and I wanted to make sure I had an entire semester to really soak the information in as it is a basis for all else to come. ;)

FAworld, yes I probably will only take 1 class during the summer to make sure I do well on it. Also, we get to choose whether we take A&P 1 & 2 or Anatomy & Physiology seperately. Everyone is telling me to do A&P 1 & 2.

I would take micro and nothing else. I am not sure how you would even be able to take another class. The micro offered at my school in the summer is four days a week and it meets from 9-3 with a one hour break....

I took A&P II during the summer and you need a full semester for A&P if you want to do really good so I would not take it again during the summer its a lot of memorization and not only that they make the tests really hard. But I know that micro is a lot easier than A&P I and II. I would say take micro in the summer.

Yeah, I thought it was really odd that my school separates them out (it is the only one that does out of 5 community colleges in the area). It worked out fine for me but since I haven't taken them together (A&P 1 &2), I couldn't say which way is better but I would assume it's together since that's how most colleges do it now.

I would take micro if those were my only two options.

I would take A&P over the summer; I took A&PI during a summer I session and A&PII during a summer II session last year, and I thought it worked out well. Since there is so much memorization, I thought it was helpful that we had tests about once a week; you didn't have as much time to forget all of the information you had just learned. Plus, you won't have any other classes to distract you from A&P. It will be time consuming, but worth it.

It depends on how the summer courses are for your school. I would recommend asking around for people who have taken the course in the summer. For example, in my university physiology and anatomy are separate. The anatomy part is very time consuming if you take it during the year and for the lecture exams it is always out of choices A to E. I heard it was much easier to take it in the summer because they take out a lot of material and the lecture exams are MC choices A to D only.

So it just really depends on your school. If they were the same difficulty level, I would just take Micro since A&P is much more time consuming than Micro usually.
