A&P 1: The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok, no one has started this yet, so I guess I will. I start A&P I on January 18th, lab and lecture.

Here are a few good websites I have found...some are basic, some may be more indepth than your instructor asks for.....BUT it gives you a little more to look over before class starts next month! :) ....Never forget the website for your actual book too!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

Hey americaneagle07

Just a few thoughts I have. Do you have " open lab" time or the ability to attend an additional lab other than the one you already are in? Like, for example, another lab your teacher has...that she'd allow you to sit in on...just for more reinforcing?

As for other things...all I can really say is that I do a LOT of searching online for whatever I am currently on....we just had our 3rd lab test today on the eye, ear, endorcine glands, bone types, bone projections/processes..and the spinal plexuses/nerves. This was after a week of spring break. All I can say is that I spent sooooo much time searching out other means of reviewing it all b/c I didn't have the ability to attend any open labs, more labs, etc b/c the school was closed.

As for other suggestions...I really try to break everything down and look at the " big picture" and then see if there's a way to the " smaller picture" if possible. For example...with eye muscles...I knew the Inferior Oblique elevated the eye and turned it laterally...therefore I knew the Superior Oblique did the opposite...then I realized the Inferior RECTUS did the opposite of the Inferior Oblique- it depressed ( but no laterally)...therefore I knew what the Superior Rectus did ( opposite of Inferior Rectus)....so when I noticed that...I realized all I REALLY needed to remember hard core was ONE......If I had Inferior Oblique...I knew Superior Oblique....same thing if I knew Inferior Oblique...I knew Inferior Rectus did the opposite...then if I knew Inferior Rectus...I knew Superior Rectus.

Hope that makes sense. Another example...cranial nerves.....I did a statement( and this is totally risque). One Old Oger Totally Told Amy Forget Virginity Get Vixenous And Horny.

I do a lot like this.....I dont know if this helps but its just another thing I do...try to make connections between either " big to small" or make up a sentence that cooresponds.

I hate that dammed Marieb book. I've gotten some pretty reliable information that the Marieb book is a lot harder to read, way too detailed. I believe it. Wish I would have investigated this sooner.

We use Marieb's lab book and Martini's lecture book fortunately. It's so much easier to read Martini's than Marieb's. I study everything from that book and use Marieb's only when my professor tell me to do so.

Welcome, Triple A's, and good luck to you!

americaneagle07: I have muscle powerpoint quizzes on my page: http://www.nursingjourney.com. They are made from the models from my lab class...maybe your school has the same ones. Hope this helps. Also, utilize open lab times, or your school's science learning center. They have one at the college I attend, and in there are models, microscopes, and tutors to help you!!!! :)

Hi, everyone :Melody:

I am finally taking A&P this spring, class began today. Wish me luck, this is my first college course in 12 years. If anyone has any study tips for this class, please don't hesitate to share. I am also prepping for the RN pre-entrance exam :rotfl: . If anyone has any tips please share, I am so afraid of failing this exam. I need to pass in order to be accepted into the nursing program in Jan 2006.

LOL you think this is risque. We are studying the nervous system right now...you should hear the one we learned in my class (not from the instructors...it's just going around the classes). I won't post it here...too dirty! Anyone who tells it gets red :chuckle

T.G.I.F. everyone! Hope everyone had a good week!

We are working towards our 4th lecture exam. We sure seemed to jump around a lot...we did the CNS 2 tests ago and now this one is PNS, ANS, and Special Senses ( had our lab special senses plus other stuff test this past Tues).

Now we are working on the Axial Skeleton in lab...which is where I know a lot of you started or went after histology. Next week we do the Appendicular...the following week the Muscular System and then that's it for lab...practical #4 and labs over- wow it seems odd. I think I have a pretty good grasp on the Axial so far.

Fun2Care you had tests, right? If so, hope they went well:)

Have a good weekend everyone.

Thanks, BoonersMom. I think it did go well.....won't know probably until Thursday. Our case study (25% of the lab grade) isn't due until Tuesday. Now I'm almost finished with the case study, and then back to studying for the lecture test. My little skeleton I bought on Ebay helped out a bunch in learning bone markings. I already knew the names of the bones. The pics & powerpoints I made over the muscles helped out a bunch too, I think. I just hope I didn't let my hand write before my brain thought

I will be so glad when this semester is over. This has been stressful ....knowing I HAVE to make an A!

We'll start the CNS PNS and Special Senses lecture and lab stuff Tuesday.

Right after this class it's Micro during maymester & summer 1. Then A&P 2 in summer 2. ......then maybe a break....don't know what I'm going to do yet! :)

Good luck everyone....the end is near! :)

I loved studying the bones. I got my result for lecture test on muscles and I got a B :) Monday, I will find out what I did on the lab test. Part of the test was oral and I got 19/20 right. He didn't accept my answer that was right just a second after I gave him the wrong one. :uhoh3:

I have a lecture final and lab final. Lecture is cumulative and lab is only nervous system. 3 more weeks left!

I am taking A&PII and Algebra in the summer. It is sad to see how many people in my class are not going to be eligible to take A&PII, we need to have a C in A&PI to qualify.

Good job on the lecture test, and lab test :)

I just hope I can make at least a B! I'm soooooo not ready for my lecture test next week over muscle tissue and nervous tissue.

I am taking the online lecture. We started with 24 and we now have 12. The class average is very low. I was doing well until my last written test, but still have an A. I am going to try and really put in more time these next couple of weeks. I was afraid of taking the online A&P II this summer because of the length of study time. Also, does anyone have a format for case studies? My teacher gives us almost no help and then makes us re-do it when we hand it in. Every time you have to re-do it the teacher lowers your grade. I have never done these and could use some help.

Thanks

Jules

I hate the case studies!! From my point of view, if I can make a 100 on a lab practical, but loose 25% because I have to use critical thinking to answer things we haven't been taught, then that is total B.S.!!!!! (bull stuff, of course..lol)

I just search the internet until I can find something remotely close to whatever I am trying to figure out, and go from there.

They are a #(#$(, but they get your mind to working though. :uhoh3:

What is a case study? How do you do that?

We don't have any case studies.
