Need information
Hi Everyone, Thank you ladies, especially Eaglegirl (who helped me last year), and of course Lisa (encourager & supporter/friend 1st year). I am completing my first year at North Metro Tech (which is now moving to Lanier tech). I have two teenage boys, 13 and 16, and I have faired pretty well. It is certainly workable with children. Sudah- I knew you would get in to NGCSU..... I was talking with a friend of yours from my Micro class. Sorry I haven't called, I will call you this week. Anyway, it was a tough year for me because I was sick for several weeks and had an overseas trip, but.... I made it successfully. It is a good program. I also had heard that a few people took the 1st year Nutrition class early so they did not have to take it the first semester. I do not know if it is offered this summer, but getting that out of the way, especially if you have kids, would be helpful...but not neccessary. I had it tough because I had not finished A&P II or Micro so I have been taking them along with nursing, whew!!! It can be done, but you must work hard. Anybody who was put on the waiting list, don't be sad, I was called from the waiting list in July!!! Let me know if I can answer any other questions, Juli Sudha Please call me!!! Hi Lisa!

New Grad Friendly Hospitals in Georgia
I found out that Northside has a great intern progtam. The program cycles you through many areas. I think it would be a great start if you are not sure where you want to land in nursing yet. Good luck, I still have another year but am looking for an extern program for this summer. Jules

NGCSU- 2005 Dietary Guidelines
Althea, are you sure we are suppose to print that guide out? I believe we are to follw the study guide for Chapters 1,2, and 11 in our packet of papers. There are a few questions to answer. In addition we are suppose to know the Key terms in those chapters. I think the clinical part is due on Wednesday. I also think we are to read modules 1 and 11 in the nutrition book. Jules

GPC Vs. NGCSU?
Amy, You can find the program requirements in the Nursing section of each schools website. The course numbers are different but they all have transferred for me. If you have a concern about a course you can call the admissions dept of the school you want to transfer to. I also waited too long to apply to Perimeter soooo I went to a tech school for one quarter, it was helpful in getting my feet wet, I then transferred to Perimeter. I did have a couple of weeks that overlapped with classes at both campus' because perimeter is on semesters, but it all worked out. Good Luck!!! Jules

NGCSU- Need Info on Fall Schedule
I think the teachers in the elementary schools put too much fear in the minds of 5th graders regarding middle school. It really isn't that bad. Although the main difference is that they do not want parents in the school anymore. I am sure you and your daughter will do fine. My son is beginning to drive. How can I be old enough to have kids that drive!!! My husband is going to teach him, I don't think I want that chore. I am soo excited and can't wait to meet you and all the other nusring students. If you have a cell phone send me a private message and I'll call you Monday to see if you are on campus when I am. Jules

NGCSU- Need Info on Fall Schedule
Susan, I was under the impression that we could just drop in on Monday, between 9-3. I am wondering if we will get more information or will they wait till Wednesday. Even though it is going to be alot of work, at this point I would like to know what to expect. I am very excited and frazzled at the same time. Good luck with your middle schooler, its a big step. I have two boys 8th and 10th grade. Which campus are you on? I look forward to meeting you Monday or Wednesday. Jules

NGCSU- Need Info on Fall Schedule
Althea, I sent an e-mail to the instructor because I have some childcare issues on Friday's. She said that classes will be on Monday's 9-12, then our clinic time for the first half of the semester will be on Wednesday's, after that the clinics will be split up. Half of the class will clinic on Wednesday's and the other half on Friday's. So for now it looks like Tues, Thurs and Friday are good work days for you. I am very excited and hope to see you on Monday or Wednesday. When are you going up to register on Monday? Lisa and I are going to go early. Jules

Shukry, Lisa and I both purchased our packages at the main campus. We did not see the Lab book you mentioned on the booklist. Where did you see that book listed as Optional. Jules

NGCSU ASN Program Location Revealed at LAST!!- North Metro College
I got my package at the school bookstore, couldn't find the package online. I do not remember how much the lab book you asked about was, but purchased it at Barnes and Noble. Their prices are very competitive. Jules

Dell Axim x50 or Tungsten T5? Handhelds, PDA's
I love my Dell X30. You might be able to save money on an older model. I have had mine about 1 1/2 years and love it.

Getting Organized Before Starting School
I started a couple of weeks ago, getting my family in order. I have two teenage boys, 13 and 15. They do their own laundry now. I have also taught them to empty dishwasher and trash and any general straightening that has to be done w/o being asked. It is part of their chores. If they do not get it done they lose an electronic device or whatever else that will get their attention. I try not to get angry, I just calmly say ok well you lost video games for tomorrow. It seems to be working. My kids have been very supportive. They realize that have carted them everywhere for all these years and they want me to stay in school and finish, so they are willing to help. I also use a PDA, still looking for the right software to buy. Setting up car pool. I look at studying as if it were a job. I have a quiet place and I just schedule the time to study and stick to it. Unplug phone and try to stay on task, no other chores while studying. I hope this will work because I was accepted into the program sooner than expected, pulled from wait list, and I still have A&P II and Micro to complete before next Fall. On other thing I have not seen and is oh so important is Pray!!!! And have everyone you know pray for you also...It certainly can't hurt..
