A&P 1: The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Ok, no one has started this yet, so I guess I will. I start A&P I on January 18th, lab and lecture.

Here are a few good websites I have found...some are basic, some may be more indepth than your instructor asks for.....BUT it gives you a little more to look over before class starts next month! :) ....Never forget the website for your actual book too!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

Case studies are usually at the end of each chapter (unless your instructor supplies you with some) and they are used to apply your knowlege of A & P to a clinical situtation. We use the Marieb book and I have seen the case studies at the end of each chapter and also in the on-line Marieb site.

Pasha:)

What is a case study? How do you do that?

We don't have any case studies.

Specializes in Operating Room.

Our cases studies are not from the book.....those would be too easy! lol

Nooooooo, our case studies are a pain in the gluteals! The one we are doing now is over Muscle Dysgeny. I think I looked at it 100 times before I even had a clue as to how to start it. (Of course, it became a little easier once I finally had a concept of muscle tissue and the sliding filament theory.)

...But at 25% of our lab grade, I'd rather have 25 more identification questions on the lab practical (a total of 100), while the case study could be mandatory extra credit.

We had to do a case study ( if you want to call it that- the teacher did but honeslty it wasn't IMHO) but basically we had to pick a disorder/disfunctionthat had to deal with a system we had before ( I picked keratosis pilaris- integumentary)...and then she had us break it down into sections. INTRODUCTION ( where you put what it was...and some facts about it)..then NORMAL A+P of the __________ System...then Pathology of your disease/disorder...then Diagnostic Tools+Methods, then Treatment, then a Bibliography. We *could* use a certain person that had ________ in the " Pathology" part...but for the most part it was broadbased ....more like a book report- it was weird. It was worth 30 pts.

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

This seems very complex. How do you supposed to complete the case study after some A&P 1 classes, without taking any other science class?

In all honesty it was just a matter of looking stuff up. My son has keratosis pilaris...so all I basically had to go was talk about how keratinocytes in the epidermis normally shed and the same for hair follicles...then in the pathoogy part describe how those actions are irregular in KP.

Just got lab exam #3 back...108%. Which bumped my "overall lab/lecture" average to a 100.7!

I have spent all weekend and today going over and over and over the Pns and ANS. Right now my eyes are crossing and my head is spinning. There's a lot more to the PNS/ANS then there was to the CNS as far as learning pathways and parts , etc etc. The dang brachial plexus has me sooo confused right now ha ha ha. It's nutso...this nerve arises from blah and crossed over blah to split to blah and blah nerve serves sensory to blah and motor to blah and *yikes*. Well, at least I have 8 more days to study for this lecture test.

You poor thing, all we had to know was the purpose of a plexus. I'm glad we are done with the NS

I'm feeling pretty smug today. I was ready to conceed that a B might be in my future as a final grade since I got a 68 on last week's test. Well, I just got a 100 on this week's test. I guess I'm back in the saddle again! I want that A! Thank goodness my instructor drops the lowest grade.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks for the advice about my lab. Fun2Care thanks for your website, it is awesome! It's a great study tool. Unfortunatly our lab doesn't offer open lab times. Congrats Booner'smom and landshark on your great test scores. Good luck to everyone as we hit the last stretch of the semester. I can't believe this class is almost over! (at least until next semester :chuckle )

COngrats landshark!

I hear you americaneagle.....I think I have reached the point that I reach in every class..one month to go and I'm *done*. I have 2 1/2 weeks off between this and summer session and I REALLY plan on doing anything and EVERYTHING BUT looking at any type of school/medical/nursing whatever book.

Specializes in Operating Room.

Way to go, Landshark!

Thanks americaneagle...glad it helped.

BoonersMom.....I'm at the point where I wanna cry if it's not over soon! :crying2: The stress is on! lol I did so well on the first lab and lecture, think I did well on the second lab, so the second lectue, and third lab -n- lecture could make me or break me. I'm getting scared! I just want this class to be over, and to see my A on the grade page online!! :stone

....can't wait for my 4 day break before Maymester/Summer II's Microbiology! :p

Goooooood luck to us all! :nurse: :nurse: :nurse:

I hear ya Fun2Care!

I had to skip lecture today I was feeling so ill to my stomach..I left after lab. Of course, this is the ONE lecture I DIDNT want to miss...go figure.

ha ha

I was a little perturbed today in lab though- I spent all that time going over the Axial skeleton and she nixed the quiz today..instead bumped it to next week so it will be Axial + Appendicular..which is the SAME day as our lecture test and like I said...right now this PNS/ANS stuff has my head spinning...like I really needed more crud in my lap for the same day....but oh well...I shall survive lol.
