A&P 1: The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Published

Ok, no one has started this yet, so I guess I will. I start A&P I on January 18th, lab and lecture.

Here are a few good websites I have found...some are basic, some may be more indepth than your instructor asks for.....BUT it gives you a little more to look over before class starts next month! :) ....Never forget the website for your actual book too!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

We have our first lecture test coming up in a week from Friday

We have a quiz every lab (once a week)...did well on last week's (91/94) did better than I thought...maybe all those hours w/the textbook HAVE paid off lol...I feel like the more I study the less I know hehe.

We've done one dissection so far...a pig. We dissected it on our first lab which sort of surprised me but it was helpful to see where the organs were. Lately in lab we've just been looking at and identifying different types of tissues and fuction/location.

Best of luck to everyone!

How is everyone doing? Still no test scheduled here!

I know I'm not ready for a test, but I'd would like to have a grade to know where I stand. Anyone feeling this way?

Have you not had any homework? We have had so much homework in our classes, plus our first test was last week.

Rebecca

Into my second week now. It's not too too bad. Just a lot of memorization. We have our fist lab practical exam this coming Tuesday. We had a 5 pt

"extra credit" lab quiz yesterday and I got a 4/5. I could really kick myself ...she was pointing to a body and asked what region she was pointing to...at first I wrote epigastric because I thought her pointer was in the middle but then I realized it was further over...left hypochondriac BUT I wrote left lumbar! I'm such a moron! As soon as I handed it in I was like " oh crap!".

We looked at all the histology slides yesterday and I have to say we have A) TERRIBLE slides and B) TERRIBLE microscopes. The slides looked nothing like pictures in my book and when I was trying to look at nervous tissue and all I got was a circle I called her over and she said " Oh, it didn't stain". AFTER I had spent 10 minutes searching for the star-like shapes ha ha ha ha . I certainly HOPE for our practical we don't have to use those same slides..ugh they were awful..OLD and badly stained.

Nope, none at all! We only have 3 lecture tests, and 3 lab practicals. Only 6 grades are taken all semester....do or die lol

Take your time, and breath before you write something. lol

Name out all the regions or quadrants, after thinking of the answer to make sure you thought correctly.

Good luck...... 4 out of 5 is good, especially if you realized what you did wrong without being told, or shown. Granted, it doesn't help your extra credit grade, but you caught your mistake on your own. That shows you do know it! Now you know what mistake NOT to make on your practical.

I have a ?? maybe someone can answer. I am going over my Histology Unit review...we have to fill them out and turn them back in and one of the questions says " name the type of cells in these tissues" then there are 10 or more tissues listed. Well one of them is simple squamous epithelium....aren't the cells in SSE just squamous epithelial cells? ( as opposed to say, macrophages, osteocytes, etc etc). I got all the other ones but this one threw me...I don't know if it's a trick question or I am right.

I would say the same thing as you.

I had 2 questions for you all.

How on Earth did you memorize all the landmarks for the appendicular bones? We did that in lab today, and I admit, I haven't read the chapter, but that just totally confused me. Any tips?

Also, how does your lab test look like? Do you have to find the cells yourself or do you have samples already prepared for you? That is how we are going to do it. He prepares it all for us and we have to recognize them all. I am still trying to figure out hyaline and loose, those two just mess me up :)

Sounds correct to me! :)

Learning the landmarks of the bones is pretty much just memorization, and constant studying!

I also search for different quizzes, photos, etc online that way I see more, read more, and learn more! :)

So, the more different pictures you see of each tissue, the more you will be able to recognize what you are looking at. Did you draw what you saw in lab? That helps me as well.

Good luck.

I have a question for all of you...

My Lab insructor told us the other day that we are the only community/junior college in the country that uses human cadavers for dissection. Do you think that's true? What do you all dissect? I'm assgned to do the muscles of the anterior shoulder/upper arm on a woman. I start my dissection on Monday. Wish me luck, I have no idea what I'm doing!

Our CC does not use cadavers. It hink it depends upon the funding of the CC.

That is great!

Pasha :)
