Hey guys, I am currently attending a community college and am completing anatomy and physiology 1 right now. I'm trying to figure out whether it would be better for me to take A&P 2 in the summer or the fall of this year. I have listed below pros/cons of each and my thoughts on each. I wanted to see if any of you who have taken A&P 2 in the faster-paced summer semester, have any feedback. Even if you have not taken it in the summer and just have advice, I'll take that too! :)
A&P 2 in the Summer:
-Shorter time frame (fall & spring semesters are 16 weeks long, summer is condensed into 8 weeks), and with working full-time..this could be difficult (but i am taking A&P 1 and sociology while working FT right now and am doing well)
-20 students in the class, as opposed to 40-50 in the fall
-same students as in A&P 1 now...which personally, i think would be better
-won't have time to make extra time in the summer or take that time for myself (if i dont enroll in A&P 2 in the summer, i will take psychology)
-could potentially get done sooner, which means getting accepted into the ADN program sooner
A&P 2 in Fall:
-40-50 kids in each class, dislike this A LOT
-longer time frame (16 weeks now as opposed to 8 short weeks in summer)
-won't get to be with the same kids as in A&P 1 (most of them are taking A&P2 in summer)
-could *possibly take a little longer to get accepted into program, or at least finish gen ed. classes*
-taking A&P 2 in fall, summer would be a breeze and would be able to make more money and have time for myself and vacations
So my reasons may be silly, or small...but here they are. Let me know what you guys think/advice you wanna give. Thanks!! :) :)

jellybean321, I took AP 2 in the summer and it was very easy for me. I came out with an A. Although our schools might be different, I had ap2 in the summer mon-fri from 12 to 4. The teacher sometimes made us stay until 4 but other times let us out earlier. I learned a lot in a short time frame and the teacher was very helpful and took into consideration that no one wanted to be in class during the summer, so he worked with us rather than against us.
I'd say that if you don't have many obligations in the summer time, I would recommend taking AP2 in the summer rather than the fall. If you have to work in the summer or have prior obligations then take it in the fall.
It would be a lot easier to get it over with in a shorter period of time. But, it does take a lot of hard work and determination.
Good luck and let me know what you decide! Or if you have any more questions.
Take Care,
Danni

I am trying to make the same decision. I am taking A&P 1 and English 2 now and am going to take nutrition in the first summer session and I wanted to take A&P2 in the second summer session. I have actually already registered for these summer classes but the problem for me is, the summer sessions are only 4 weeks long. I think A&P2 with lab might be too much to absorb in 4 weeks. Plus I work full time with 3 children and a husband. I go back and forth every day with whether or not to drop A&P2 and wait to take it in the fall for the full 16 weeks. We are all in the same situation, needing to get our pre-reqs done in time to meet the deadlines for applying for nursing programs but I do not want to get anything lower that an A.
So undecided

I took A&P1 & Nutrition in the 1st summer session and A&P2 & History 2 in the 2nd session. I defnitely think it's doable; I made A's in all 4 classes.
If your ADN programs requires an entrance test, I would definitely take A&P2 in the summer and then take the entrance test as soon as possible after your class ends. I waited until the very last minute in December to take the HESI and forgot a lot of the A&P. I still got 80% on the A&P portion, but it was my lowest score.

You give me hope. Were your summer sessions 4, 6 or 8 weeks?
Our summer sessions were 10 weeks, so each A&P class was 5 weeks. What made it easier for me was that only my A&P classes were in-person; I took Nutrition and History 2 as online classes. If your school offers online classes, I definitely recommend them.

I see an all pro list for taking it in the summer and an all con list for taking it in the fall. lol I think you've got your choice made.
Thanks for your insight guys. It is definitely a difficult decision! I'm the same way, thinking every single day of what would be the best option for me. My boyfriend, who knows me very very well (I'll even admit, probably more than I know my own self!) recommended for me to take A&P 2 in the fall so that I'm not even more pressured and can get a really good grade. But, as you guys have mentioned..the NLN deadlines and program application deadlines really just make my decision for me to take A&P 2 in the summer. I hate the fact that the deadlines are you're final decision factor! It is what is I guess, right?
Thanks again for all of your insight, I truly do appreciate it! :redbeathe

I agree with mj
If your going to go in choosing something you really don't like, your not going to succeed. but if you choose the easy route and fail because you can't hack it. that won't be good either.
Its your decision and your decision alone
(i feel like i stole that last line from a movie....lol)

I was in the same boat last year and I decided to take it in the summer. It was a lot of material in a short amount of time, and I wouldn't recommend it to someone who thought they might struggle with the class. I was working full time too, so it felt like I missed out on most of my summer. If I had taken it in the fall, it would have pushed my NS application back another 6 months, so for me it was the right decision.
I took it in 6 weeks
peice of cake.
a lot to memorize but you don't have time to forget it its so fast!
