A&P 1 Study Tips??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just started A&P 1 this past Saturday and I'm feeling overwhelmed with all of the new terminology and the fact that I'm taking Chem and Psych at the same time.

I'm looking for some study techniques that have worked for you....

Thanks.

When it comes to terminology, flashcards have always helped me.

I go along with Erics idea, flash cards worked for me. I also took very good notes and practiced on websites. I also was taking chem and algebra at the same time with A&P II. It was rough but I did get an A. It all comes down to studying, and memorizing. Better to know now then going through clinicals and forgetting every thing you learned, this is one subject that is a must know. Good Luck.

Thanks, I've already started making flashcards. How many hours did you typically spend studying a week?

In addition to flashcards, I found it helpful to organize my notes, handouts, etc. in a divided binder. I organized each divider by system -- i.e. bones, muscles, cardiac, lymphatic...

Continued with this thru A& P II. I still use these binders as quick reference ( I am in my 3rd year of a BSN program).

Good Luck! :balloons:

I use flashcards too.

I also sit in my kitchen with the dryer going and when I am studying, I set the buzzer to go off. When it does, I take a small break & fold the laundry and stretch. Then I do another session & so forth.

I know it sounds weird but it works!! I can easily do two loads of laundry a day here so I get my laundry done AND study! LOL

It really depended on the system we were working on. You have to know the bones and muscles so I payed close attention to them. The websites you can find on line are great practice. I gave at least an hour or two a day for memorizing, I know this sounds like alot, but it is a must know! A&P II was a little more information, more difficult. There was alot more studying in this class. But it will pay off to be so dedicated with your study habits in these classes once you start clinicals. You want to concentrate on your nursing skills, not the basics that you should know already. Check out some websites, there is a link somewhere on this site that allows you to quiz yourself on parts of body. Maybe someone can show you where. Good luck.:studyowl:

Thanks, everyone!!! This seems like a very, very useful site!

What a coincidence! I have the exact same classesthis semester and I am overwhelmed. Chemistry demands the same amount of time (if not more) as A&P.:uhoh21:

i loved my flashcards in AP1&2. I would spent alot of time studying that stuff! I would line my cards up in like piles of 5 and only study 5 at a time and repeat over and over and eventually it stuck!

I used some flashcards at times, but what helped me taping the class, listening to the lectures, rewriting my notes and study everyday. I would say to study about 15-20 hours a week
