Doing well, it's a 15 week term and we're winding down, finishing up the nervous system and the special senses, the final is the week after next.

We too are down to the happy, committed few; class has dwindled from 25 or so to about 9. But we are, for the most part, the A students.

Glad to read many are doing well and slowly winding down. Just curious -- do you all get patho combine with your A&P or do you take it separately? I just started my patho class and am having a hard time getting into it.

patho is its own class at my school. I would love to take it, I wish I had more money for school. Its not a required class, and I really shouldnt spend the time/money on it.

nohika, you are only human, why did you load yourself down with that many credits?

Im finding that the students who take a heavy load end up repeating classes. I take less and get an A the first time. It takes them just as long , but they spend more money and frustration.

They may not renew my financial aid this summer, and...I can't go to school without that money. So I /have/ to get things...done sooner. I haven't had to pull out loans yet and I'm really trying to avoid them.

It really sucks. It'd be doable without my absolutely horrendous family...

Interesting. I wonder if that's fairly common not to require it. I don't see many threads about patho and wondered if most people have it combined into their A&P. Our A&P is separated, so I didn't know.

Patho is part of our RN program and a co-req, but I am taking it while waiting to start this fall.

I so wish there was a chat room in here~

Patho (as far as I know) is integrated into most of the nursing programs in my state.

Well I'm late in posting to this forum with the semester being nearly over and all.

I'm actually retaking A&P seeing as how I got a C in both 1 and 2 my first go around.

I'm taking 7 hours

A&P 1 and Intro to Sociology (retaking due to it not transferring b.c I got a D)

I've been looking forward to actually dissecting something...we didn't dissect anything until A&P 2 at my other school...we've been dissecting cats throughout the semester. So far I have a high B I'm hoping I can bring up to an A.

I was accepted into the Fall 2010 ADN program at my school. So I'll start nursing classes August 17th.

I'm a second degree student...I've had to take almost all of my pre-req courses over due to a lack of motivation. So far I've turned D's in General Psych and Devp Psych into A's. An F in general chemistry to an A, an F in statistics to a B, and hopefully by the end of the semester a C in A&P to either an A or B and a D in Sociology to an A.

I wish everyone the best in completing this class. We've already lost 2/3rds of my class. It is seriously tough but from experience, just stay on top of things and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something!!!

Im on chapter 15, the special sense. Ive been reading and trying to understand the eye and ear. It is really hard. Im hoping that our Proff will explain the signal transmission in the retina to us this week. It doesnt make sense to me that the Rods do not cause a reaction that results in an action potential of the optic nerve in the dark. I thought they were for seeing in dim light? When its very bright they will cause an action potential in the optic nerve. Is this bleaching?

Yes, you are correct, the rods are used for dim light, and very astute of you to notice this disparage of potentiality between the rods and the cones. Reason being is that due to the low intensity light there is only a graded potential occurring at the bipolar cell and ganglion. Recall that action potentials are on all or none state, this would hardly do for dim light vision. :)

Note: The cones do not always generate an action potential. Depends on intensity.

Ugh...one more month (4 more classes, since it's once a week) of this horrid class!

So my A & P professor realized we're behind and now he is trying to cram everything in at the last minute. We have a test every week til classes end, which I'm not sure how that's going to work. Test on Chapters 9-11 (which we've already covered) for next week. Test on Chapters 12-15 two weeks from now, which means after our test next week, he'll have to go over 4 chapters. He's not even teaching us anymore, just going through the departmental power points and saying 'Ok read this at home' and explaining just a few concepts. It's pretty major stuff he's skipping I believe.

So in two weeks I will need to learn about the Nervous System, the Spinal Cord and Spinal Nerves, the Brain and Cranial Nerves and the Autonomic Nervous System. LOVELY!

This is by far, the worst teacher I have ever had.

Thats terrible, why cant your Proff stick to the syllabus? We never strayed too far from ours. What have you been doing all semester? We are getting lecture on Ch 15 this week. Then we do chapter 14, for some reason they are reversed in our learning order. (I think its because of Lab) So, our next exam is on 14, 15. Thats it for this class.

Reading the powerpoints is so inadequate, our Proff skips a lot too.
