Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)
I'm currently re-taking A&P I for a better grade. It's not any easier the 2nd time around. I'm studying like crazy and still am struggling. Any advise on what I could do better? How do people get an A in this class? I have the muscles and bones down. Lab is a breeze, it's the lecture tests that are killing me.
Our textbook comes with the whole MyA&P deal but there's also a free website that has tests/quizzes/diagrams, etc...it's at www.anatomyandphysiology.com. Very thorough text so it's got to be a pretty good site. Also I know this is late in the discussion but the way I remember hyper/hypotonic is this:
*HypOtonic = low solutes
*Hyper = "a lot", so Hypertonic Solutions have "a lot" of solutes
I just try to think of it as that the ECF and ICF are always going to try and equal out so that they both have the same concentration, and since cell membranes are selectively permeable, H2O is going to move in and out of the cell easier than any solutes. Hope that helps!
Our first test isn't until 2/12 and I wish to God it was sooner...I don't know how much more info I can stuff into my brain!
I have the Marieb book...the green one. However, even though it comes with quizzes and such, for some reason does not have the information that is given to us on quizzes. The quizzes are worth 15 points but include 45-70 questions depending on the luck of the draw. I take the course online but have 3 proctored exams on campus--I really hope our test (that are worth 100 each) are a little more of what I read in the text.
Good luck on your test!!

I am sorry to hear that you are taking it again. I am not doing as well as I would like. To be honest with you, if I get a C (or higher, which I wold love to get) I will not take the course again. It is hard for me...I try to study but there is too much information and I tend to get distracted. Plus it doesn't help that our quizzes do not come from the book! Keep your head up, it will turn out all right.
Last night while reviewing for today's lab I discovered that I must know and be able to label the vast majority of bones/foramina/fossae/articulations/processes/etc for the skull when it is both articulated AND disarticulated. Which is fine...but MY GOD!!! I had no idea there were so many little bits in the human skull ! Has anybody come up with a great way to memorize these? Or should I just go ahead and start labeling blank diagrams? At least we can sit in our cars in traffic poking ourselves in the head and saying "Oh, so this is my zygomatic process! And this must be my temporal bone!":rotfl:
Let me just say that I just had my first exam in A&P today and it was not pretty. I made a 70 (out of a possible 100!) I know what did me in...it was that chemistry. Well, that wasn't all of it. The other part was all of the "none of the above" and "all of the above" questions. What has me kinda bummed out is the fact that it is going to be extremely hard to pull an A in this class now. I'd have to be near perfect (95 or better!) on the remaining 4 exams. I'm going to give it all I've got, but I know it's going to be tough. (If I only had one class, it might not be so bad, but it's tough when this is not my only course--I have one other one that involves a lot of reading--PSYCH!)
Thanks for letting me whine a bit...

Ronkie-
Where are you in school at? It so happens that I have a total of five exams and just got my first exam grade back today as well, which led me to wonder.
Are you working full time as well as taking these classes?
I did pretty well on my first exam, and honestly, what helped me was just going over it over and over and over and over again, and then over it once more. I also read all the chapters before class, and then read over the parts that were confusing in lecture and made a few notes to myself. Granted, this is my only class (plus full-time work and volunteering), but it can be done. If it happens that we are in the same class, I'll help you study!
Also, don't be afraid to email the professor about things that are confusing. I emailed a professor a question, and the very same thing showed up on the exam! It was almost like she took my question and made it into an exam question!
You can do it!!! Even if you don't make an "A" and just pull a "B" that will be okay. I know it wouldn't be ideal, but okay nonetheless. Hang in there!

I'm taking A&P online. (Maybe that's part of my problem!) I know I'm going to do well in this class. I refuse to continue down the "70" road! It's just taking this old lady a little bit to get used to being in school again, but I've got my mojo now! Gonna push for an A and see what happens! Thanks for the encouragement!
I've spent the entire day reading the postings and boy am I glad. Instead of taking a nap I'm going to go home and study. I"m only taking one class, A&P right now, but with working full time I feel like it's already taking alot out of me. I'm horrible when it comes to studying. I've had 3 classes so far and 1 quiz and we're only on Meiosis. Looking forward to learning about the more general topics because the chemistry is killing me.
Thanks to everyone for posting their own methods of memorization and online quizzes.
hi I am taking A&P this Spring too!!! I start today!!! My A&P class is a pre-reque for the LVN Program at my Community College. The class is called Elementary Human Anatomy & physiology is that the same as A&P 1 I would reall y like to jion this forum I could use a study buddy!!!:bowingpur:tku::hpygrp:
Advice please:o
We just started with the tissues yesterday. My proffesor said not to memorise the tissues in the books because we might memorize and label the tissue's wrong. How do i do this?how do i study tissues
My first lab tissue test (50 pts) is in two weeks along with my first lecture test that will be worth 100pts.
How do you study tissues, any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
