Published

well, it's about time to start this thread, i think!! let's get our bearings and see who all is in the same boat in january!

i finish up the first half of a&p with a comprehensive exam on december 13th and then it's right into the physiology portion of the course. we actually are starting special senses this week and next but will only get the first chapter done.

so .... who else is in? when did you take a&p i and how is your course set up? do you have the prof you want and are you looking forward to it?

i will include the sites from the a&p i thread that might be helpful! i will add/subtract as i get a chance to look through them a bit more or if anyone else suggests some good sites.

Next in class, I found out that unlike A&P1, we'll now be using laptops in class. My school invested in a anatomy computer program (A.D.A.M, anyone heard of it?) and starting next week we'll be using it in lab! So, yesterday, the instructor helped us all learn out to set up the laptops.

No, Julie, I am not using Tortora's text. My school uses Marieb's text and lab manual.

Wow, I have to admit I'm a little jealous! Your program sounds fantastic and really well put together. I asked my teacher yesterday if she prefers Marieb's to Tortora's and she said she does...she really is not crazy about Tortora's.

A couple of the nurses I work with had a great suggestion that I thought I would share. They suggested getting a digital voice recorder to record all the lectures. I found one on eBay for $40, and it downloads to your PC, so you can save the lectures and listen to them again to review for tests and the final. Sounded like a great idea to me, because sometimes you miss something, or can't take notes fast enough. Anyway, just an idea that I'm gonna try!!

I started doing this for AP1 and it saved my butt a few times. I never miss a lecture, but sometimes I can't quite understand a concept the first time around or I'm simply spacing out. What really helps is when you hear your teacher say something you know you'll need to listen to again, write down the time in your notes.

For example, thyroid secretion- 26:00, then when you're studying later you can fast forward to each of those parts instead of having to listen to the entire lecture again.

hello everyone,i too will be starting a/p2(along w/microbiology) and i can't wait to get started!! i browsed some of the websites kayel posted, and i think they are awesome and will be very helpful(thankyou:d) good luck to everyone this semester!

Well today was my 1st day with a heavy heavy courseload. But my teachers seem pretty cool so far. I have the same teacher for AP2 so I know what to expect from him and I will be studying my butt off. So how was everyone elses 1st day. 1 day done .......how many more to go LOL

My first day was good also, 'cept I've gotten spoiled from power point handouts and my AP teacher this semester doesn't use them. *rubs sore finger and cramped hand* ~ Diane

Glad you had a good first day! Class for me is next Weds but I know I need to start studying the veins now. Procrastination is easy for me, but I swear I will have my flashcards made by this weekend!

Anyone know of an easy way to help memorize the veins and arteries?

*Squee* First day of class today. Acctually for some reason, labs are earlier in the week then lecture, so I had a lab today. The teacher wasted no time jumpping into material. She ran through the boring beginning of every semester stuff as fast as she could and startted lecturing on the heart. Then the last part of lab was spent disectting sheep hearts! What a way to start the semester!

I'm taking a new teacher due to scheduling issues, so I can't take A&P2 with my A&P1 teacher, but I can already tell this teacher will be good!

The only bad thing, the bookstore doesn't have the required book in stock yet... :uhoh21:

I like teachers like that. SO many waste an entire class on having each student say his/her name, their major, and some random fact about themself. Then, they spend the rest of the class going over the syllabus and stuff. I just want to jump right in to the material!

Hello:specs: everyone my 1st day for AP 2 lec is Jan 14 online.I completed AP 2 lab durning an intersession Dec 05 in New Orleans,LA for all students enrolled before the storm. The class was 3 weeks, beginning Dec 01- Dec 22 it wasn't as bad as I thought. Well my first day was Monday. We had our first quiz last night and I am already off to a bad start because I did horrible on the quiz. I made it through A&P ! with a B+ but I am really worried with this second half. I don't feel that I understand like some of the other students. Why doesnt the information click in my brain when my teacher is lecturing?? I am already confused and we are only on talking about blood. My teacher was explaining all the different blood types and I was understanding a little bit then I just got lost.I want to be able to unerstand the information becasue I know it is important for Nursing school. Even though I have received all A and B's in my classes I am extremely worried about this class. Well I guess I will have to admit that I am the type of student that has to work much harder than some. Well that was how my first day went and I hope it gets better.
