Just wanted to start a "club" for those of us who are taking A&P 1 this fall.

My class is 16 weeks. I have lecture on M/W/F for one hour each day and lab on Tues for 3 hrs.

My teacher for lecture & lab (same person) is awesome! She gives us a weekly quiz, drops the lowest one. Gives us extra credit. Four major tests. Final is comprehensive. (Ick)

She gave us handouts for chapter 1 and we just fill in what we want as she pretty much has everything she wants in these handouts. She told us we don't have to bring our big, heavy book to class - she'd tell us page numbers of tables, pictures she wanted us to know. As a matter of fact - she said we don't have to use the book that was sold to us for this semester. She said we could use any book like Saladin, etc., and make copies if any diagram, table is different. Pretty nice there.

Hello! I am new! I am taking AP1 this semester too! We just started skeletal last night in lab... yikes! Not much direction by the instructor! I am getting scared...:eek:

I also was wondering what goals everyone else has regarding nursing...? I already have a BA in another field and am looking into accelerated programs... possibly a CNL program at Univ. of Maryland for 2nd degree folks...

I have a B.S. with double major in psych and history, and will (God willing) enter the Accelerated BSN program at USF in spring 2008. Assuming A's in A&P, Nutrition, and Life Cycle, I ought to get in, since they only look at GPA. They make us wait a semester between finishing prereqs and starting nursing school, but we can take patho and nursing research a semester early and ease ourselves in. I'll then have three hard semesters, and be a nurse by May 2009. Get a job, my husband and I want to have a couple of kids, and maybe once they're in school I can start looking at masters programs if CRNA or NP or who know what else still sounds interesting to me. How about everyone else?

Hey MM, did you have the option of doing the MSN instead of BSN first? I'm wondering which would we be better. I was reading some of the posts on here regarding whether it is ok to bypass the RN years and go directly to NP. I could get my MSN in 16 months in this program w/o an RN so it is rather enticing... but don't want to start a job where everyone hates me and thinks I am inadequate! :wink2:

I never really looked into those programs myself, but that's partially because my original school didn't offer them so I had already made up my mind when we moved to FL. If I go for a master's though, I want to have worked as nurse first and know what areas I like. Right now, a pre-nursing student, I think NP or CRNA might be eventual goals, but maybe I'll fall in love with NICU, or want to go into midwifery. I'd rather work for a while first. If you know what you want to do though, or if you know it's not to have an RN and be a bedside nurse, then skip that part if you can, I guess.

I'm back its been a while since I last post. I have been really busy. Ok so I took the first lecture exam last week (thursday). I got an 80 the class average was a 45. That same day I had a lab quiz and got 9.5 out of 10. And today we had our lab practical on all the tissues and mitosis, and the cell. I got a B on the lab practical. So for now its more studying until the next test. Good Luck to everyone and talk to you soon.

So I took my first test in lecture, and I am feeling pretty good about. I'll have my grade on Monday....;)

In June I PCSd back to the U.S after having lived over seas for 8 years (Dh is active duty Army), so between that stress, helping my children adjust to life in the U.S., and starting school, I thought I was taking pre-reqs for an LPN program. That led to the added stress of assuming that I would be working full time as an LPN while going to school for my RN:lol_hitti . i went and spoke with my advisor who informed me that I am actually working towards an accelerated RN program!! Talk about a weight being lifted off my shoulders..my advisor probably thinks I'm nuts because my eyes welled up...I am soo relieved!!

I'm also taking A&P this semester. We have a test coming up on the 10th of October and I'm really freaking out! I find it very difficult to learn so much new material and keep up with my other classes. One thing I've found helpful is flash cards; stacks and stack of them LOL.

Here in Alaska they only accept 16 student a year, so GPA is important overall. I'm worried about this class, too worried. I'd love to join your club and wish you all the best of luck. (No wonder they make shirts that say "I survived A & P." I want one..that is IF I do survive :o)

Thanks MM - you make a great point... you are right...it would make more sense to see what I like/am good at before going all the way to the MSN. Thanks again!

I live in California and its like that here too I am pretty much shooting for a 4.0 the school I go to does not have a waitlist they take the highest GPA there is not testing no interviews just straight forward gpa so in order to get in you pretty much have to have a 4.0.

AP is a lot of work we have been in class for little over 7 weeks now, I really enjoy the work though I am finding it all very interesting and atleast this pertains to nursing, my previous classes didn't seem to make as clear a connection.

Check out all the extra websites given, make tons of flash cards and if you can find some friends to study with and bounce ideas off of each other

Yeah, A&P is definitely a ton of work, but I actually find it interesting! That makes it a little easier to learn, and feels a lot less like rote memorization. I took Geology once, thinking "rocks for jocks" would be an easy science credit. I've never had a harder class in my life. When you don't care about the material, it's almost impossible to learn. Thank God A&P is holding my attention!
