A&P 1 Fall '06 Club!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just wanted to start a "club" for those of us who are taking A&P 1 this fall.

My class is 16 weeks. I have lecture on M/W/F for one hour each day and lab on Tues for 3 hrs.

My teacher for lecture & lab (same person) is awesome! She gives us a weekly quiz, drops the lowest one. Gives us extra credit. Four major tests. Final is comprehensive. (Ick)

She gave us handouts for chapter 1 and we just fill in what we want as she pretty much has everything she wants in these handouts. She told us we don't have to bring our big, heavy book to class - she'd tell us page numbers of tables, pictures she wanted us to know. As a matter of fact - she said we don't have to use the book that was sold to us for this semester. She said we could use any book like Saladin, etc., and make copies if any diagram, table is different. Pretty nice there.

Okie dokie - who else?

Took a lab quiz last night. Arg...I would have gotten 12 out of 10 but I put "pseudostratified epithelial" instead of "pseudostratified columnar epithelial." What was I thinking? ;) I did get all the foramen on the skull right! Yay! I found a good way to remember them.

We have our lab practical over everything so far on Wed. I'm actually excited. I can't wait to take it!

well you have to share your trick on remembering!

congrats on the quiz!

that reminds me I better study for ours. we also have our histology practical today,.

Yeah, the big foramen is easy, I mean the little ones.

I think of "Lock Jaw" or "LOCJ."

foramen Lacerum

foramen Ovale

Carotid canal

Jugular foramen

Here's a pic with the holes labeled:

for the small ones in the sphenoid I remember them from inferior to superior as.

spinosum (the small spine whole)

Ovale (just above the spinosum and "oval")

rotondum (which means round just above the oval).

skeleton:

ok seems many of us are working on the samethings at the same time. we just finished our practical for histology so now its time for us to focus all our attention on skeletal system. our practical is november 4 and its worth 140points. i want to do well i am wondering how the bestway to go about learning this stuff. i have finished labeling the skull and most of the vertabrae i have a few study aides i am using and spending lots of time in the lab.

what is everyone else doing? anyone have a method of studying this stuff that might helpe someone else. i have been printing out pictures that are labeled, i am thinking of highlighting the bones i need to know and putting them on flash cards in order of where they are on the skeleton, not sure exactly how i am going to work it yet. i have a couple good links i am using to help me identify and or quiz me one was posted here already but i'll post it again, anyone else have anything please share too!

We have our practical over everything so far (histology, mitosis, body landmarks, skull, bones, etc.) on wed. I took pictures of all the models and printed them off and labeled them. Then I just cover up the answers. I have everything down except for the little parts of the long bones, like the epicondyles, etc. I need to learn those tonight!

Not sure if this is a good way to study, but it works for me.

thats all that matters that is works for you! Sometimes it helps just getting someone elses fresh ideas on things. Our Practical for Histoloagy alone ran close to 2 hours about 1.45min to be exact lol I can't imagine having to cover bones and histology! I would get confused lol. We start muscles this weekend it overlaps but they require us to do most of the work on our own. Thats why I have been digging thru links trying to atleast get a feel for where things are located before I go into the lab this weekend and handle the real bones.

This weekend I found great flash cards at Borders. They are "Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards"... it includes all of the systems. I pulled out the bones for now. The cards are great but if you have to identify each bones and landmarks using actual bones, I recommend spending extra time in the lab and comparing the pretty flash card picture to the bone... so far so good for me! GL :w00t:

Well I took the lab practical last night. It was pretty easy except I must have forgot to study 1 part of the skull and that was on the test! Goodness.

50/52 on my second lecture exam! It was on cell structures, histology, and the integumentary system. Now I've got two weeks to learn all the bones in the body. Fun! It was funny, before the exam, all the other girls were in awe of the fact that I had troubled to make flash cards...

Great job!

Yeah, I know someone who didn't even study the histology pictures! Goodness. I even gave her flashcards but she didn't look at them. Some people just aren't motivated I guess!

Well I just took my first exam both lecture and practical. It was planes of the body, regions, histology and the integumentary system. I was a wreck before the test, even gave myself an asthma attack in the middle....but now that I've finished it, I'm cautiously optimistic that I got an A. I should find out on Tuesday.

On to the bones :)

Peace,

Cathie

Our practical covered bones too but he barely had any on there! He had the femur and said "identify this bone." I was all prepared to list medial and lateral condyles, trochlear notch, etc...

Glad oto hear you-all are doing well! I earned a "B" on my first Lecture exam, which I am satisfied with because I am taking 5 classes. I took my first (one of two) lab practical this morning and will not be getting the results until friday of next week:madface: . I am not very confident about my score...hopefully I earned at least a "C".....
