A&P 1 Fall '06 Club!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just wanted to start a "club" for those of us who are taking A&P 1 this fall.

My class is 16 weeks. I have lecture on M/W/F for one hour each day and lab on Tues for 3 hrs.

My teacher for lecture & lab (same person) is awesome! She gives us a weekly quiz, drops the lowest one. Gives us extra credit. Four major tests. Final is comprehensive. (Ick)

She gave us handouts for chapter 1 and we just fill in what we want as she pretty much has everything she wants in these handouts. She told us we don't have to bring our big, heavy book to class - she'd tell us page numbers of tables, pictures she wanted us to know. As a matter of fact - she said we don't have to use the book that was sold to us for this semester. She said we could use any book like Saladin, etc., and make copies if any diagram, table is different. Pretty nice there.

Okie dokie - who else?

ok so i had test #2 today in lecture. I am nervous as He$$. I really hate the muscles. However I have a quiz next week on Muscles in lab. Can someone give me some advice on learning Orgin, Insertion, and Action for all the muscles. It is overwhelming. Any help would be awesome. Also does anyone know any good muscle websites to quiz myself on?

Yay, I got a 93 on my practical!! Whoo hoo. Now we're doing muscles. These are kind of tricky. It's hard to tell on the lab models where the massater is and the buccinator.

I got my first test back.........I got a 97!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I'm very happy :):monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance: :monkeydance:

Now on to the bones....I got to take a skull in a box home for the weekend, Tuesday I'll take home a bag of bones :)

Peace,

Cathie

Cathie that is great Congratulations, sure feels good doesn't it?!

You are so lucky to be able to bring the bones home I wish we could do that! We have to make our own extra time to come to the lab to view the bones.

Great job! have fun with the muscles when is your term up?

We have bones nov 4 for our practical and nove 18 for our muscle practical. Are you doing a lab with it too? We discet a cat and have to turn that in nov 25, we have a test on the cat, a test on our Cadavar and then the muscle practical its self all within a week of each other. We just finished the lecture on muscle but it was the physiology, we have to learn names insertions etc on our own. I never knew how much work this class would be LOL Its a good wake up call for nursing thats for sure. Good thing I enjoy it or I would be a stress ball.

thanks for the links!! they look really helpful.

my term ends the first week of december. is that what you mean? i think all we have left is muscles, nervous tissue stuff, brain and cranial nerves and spinal cord and spinal nerves.

we have a lab with the muscle section, but it's really just looking at plastic models. the only thing we dissect is a sheep brain later on. ;)

your very fortunate, we started our cat disection and I did the skinning ok but today we had to identify the first of the 5 neck muscles and I had no clue at all what I was looking at or how to cut to show them. I have spent a good portion of tonight looking on line for maybe a video on how to do it. There are some good pictures of the muscles but we have gotten zero explanation on how to cut them away to expose them very frustrating. Tomorow we move on the thoracic cavity.

thank you, and yes it does feel good

It is great to bring bones home, they aren't real (we do have to go to our Science Resource Center for real bones)....but it's great to have the plastic/resin ones to study with at home, I'm very thankful.

Peace,

Cathie

We can't take our bones home, so I just took digital pics of them in lab and then printed them off and labeled them. It has really helped me study.

oh ya plastic is great too we only have a small selection of real bones at school and I am afraid to use them knowing me they would crumble in my hand the second I pick them up. I would be very happy to take the plastic home! I have been trying to figure out how to get bones closer to home, my school is kind of far, IO am there 4 days a week as it is so its hard to find time to get up there extra. I am working my extra lab days around Chemistry but boy that is hard to go re focus after that class.

Once you learn and manipulate them the pictures work pretty good, its the small details that are hard to see on photos, the fossas and fissures and all the little bumps etc...I have been using this web site because it pretty much is exactly the same bones we need to know, I have made flash cards and added any extra bumps and divots, i have 2 more weeks to go and I still have to do the lower half of the body and the whole appendicular section. Like I said its seeing the bones once and figuring them out. Our teacher doesn't tell us where these things are we have to find them all on our own so it takes some research locating everything. Then I can try and memorize it all.

i forgot to add the web site i use :o)
