WGU Sept 2014..Anyone??

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Greetings my fellow Nurses, I am aiming to begin RN-BSN in Sept. Anyone else? Any current WGU students or Alum want to share any words of wisdom??

Same here Zara RN I finally got access yesterday evening! I feel so impatient! Impatient and excited!

Your mentor will reach out to you, usually by email, to set up your first phone call.

I'm also waiting to find out who my mentor is. I was finally able to access the orientation material 8/20.

Waiting, waiting, waiting!

Keep in mind that the term doesn't begin until 9/1, and even then, enrollment doesn't have to be completed until 9/15. You have to get EWB completed, have an Intro call with your Student Mentor, and then do a degree plan call and registration and enrollment call (usually with screen sharing). Multiply that by however many other new students your mentor has this month, and you can see it could take awhile. If you're that anxious to get started, I would finish EWB and then start working on your first course. You have access now to all the textbooks and course of study. You can even write the paper (if it's a performance assessment) and save it until you have access to Taskstream. Or you can take a pre-assessment before you're even enrolled. So you see, you have plenty to keep you busy. :-)

I've completed EWB but I didn't know I could start classes in that sense thanks for helping me get a jump start! :D

I'm almost finished with BioChem Task 1 but I was wondering if my drawn diagrams are ok? Like is that what they're looking for or am I completely missing the point? I feel like as drawn out as the instructions are my task 1 is actually pretty simple.

I was supposed to start Univ Of Arizona's RN to MSN program this month, but am having 2nd thoughts due to cost ($35k plus!);

I'm now re-thinking my plan & just rec'd my transcript eval; not as horrible as I anticipated, BUT, having to take Growth & Development, Bio-Chem & Micro w/Lab makes me cringe, esp since I've been an RN for 25 years! is un-moved by the fact I had Micro w/no Lab, therefore, I have to take the whole darn thing over, again! Seriously ??? !!! OK, now that I'm done whining & can bring 82 credits in,

realistically, how long will it take to complete the WGU RN to BSN (I'm in Calif) from start to finish, inclusive of the 3 courses I mentioned above? I plan to take a break from work and devote FULL-Time to study. Your thoughts? Thank you & Best of Luck to all!

The micro class is really pretty easy - have never heard anyone complain about it. So no worries on that one! I had to retake it too, for the same reason. Pretty much everyone takes biochem. :)

I did the whole program in 3.5 months, but it does take a bit longer in California due to PHN/practicum requirements.

Thanks featherzRN! Congratulations on your accomplishment! How was Bio-Chem? I'm terrified at the very thought of it! Are there proctored exams? Did you work? If so part-time or full-time? I'm a native New Yorker too (originally Northern Westchester County, then Plattsburgh).

As I have Zero interest in getting a Calif PHN cert, I wonder if I can use family addresses in NY or Florida, so I don't have to a PH practicum. I precepted students from a local BSN progran when I was a Visiting Nurse! Again, Many thanks! PS Are you in a MSN program?

I worked full time - M-F, 9-5. My experience is not typical, although we have had several recent peeps over on the facebook page graduating in one term. YMMV on biochem - I thought it was easy and had it done in a week, others find it a pain in the butt. It's five powerpoints to complete.

I don't know if you can use family addresses- you'll still have to do a practicum in your 'county', which would be difficult to do from another state. :p California requires a site home and a signed log of hours, everyone else no longer will have to submit a log of hours (but you are still expected to do them).

And no, not in an MSN program at the moment. I'm supposed to start the MBA program soon, but had to delay a month or two.

So how is everyone doing so far? I have completed and submitted the 4 tasks in my GKE1 (History) class -2 have been graded and passed. 2 are waiting on evaluation. (Which has been taking two days for the time submitted)I took the Pre-Assessments for IWIC (Humanities) and passedI also took the Pre-Assessment for Care of the Older Adult- and passed. I will be scheduling both of the OAs for this coming week to try and get them out of the way.I have three classes that are presentations (PowerPoints) that I will be working on next week. Ultimate goal for this month is to have 9 of the 12 CUs for this term completed and get working on BioChem and Stats for October.

I take my care of the older adult oa tomorrow at 2pm working on Biochemistry and taking the nutrition oa in the next week

Two days from submission is nothing. Many tasks take 4-6 days. I like how they now tell you where you are in the queue - that's a new feature that they just started about a month ago.
