U.S.A. Texas

Texas folk aren't too keen on unions. It will be interesting to see how far they get.

They really shoulda' started in Group One's back yard, DFW.....

I've said that before. Group One is about the only issue that could create an urge in Texas for a union.

And even there: I think MOST of the employees that work in Group One facilities aren't even aware it exists. It's one of those things that isn't a problem, until it is.

I had a friend get 'gigged' by Group One. She had never heard about it before they were quoted as the reason for her "no-hire".

I'll give them this: they are at least wise enough to keep this abuse of power on the 'down low', to a great extent.

That 'news release' is laughable.

Anybody can file a lawsuit, for any reason. No facts we're mentioned. Yet, the mere filing was used as proof to bolster the argument . . . of the interests filing the suit!

I sued you so therefore, I must have credibility! Wow.

There are multiple hospitals in San Antonio - at least 6, not counting massive gov't facilities because San Antonio is a major Evac location (VA, County, Bamc, Wilford Hall - all >350 beds). So, major gov't facilities colluded with mulitiple private employers to keep wages down?

Really? So, I guess when this suit is tossed on it's head, it'll be a case of one gov't agency hiding the sins of another? Why, it's practically a conspiracy already!

Of course, this has nothing to do w/ SEIU's 'major' (laughably only 50 nurses responded) push in San Antonio that has been so highly pushed in this forum. They are just trying to be good samaritans, I'm sure.

Good luck w/ that lawsuit thingy. I'll say this: it takes guts to claim that pushing paper in Court is the same thing as news.

No new info there.

"A spokesman for Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, which runs 180 hospitals and was named in the Texas lawsuit, called the suit frivolous.

"This is one of four frivolous money-wasting lawsuits apparently generated by a union and a law firm designed to create publicity in markets where unions are trying to get membership," said Jeff Prescott, a spokesperson for HCA."

Well, you say, that's what HE says. Well, that's the only thing the filing of a lawsuit is: what THEY say.

~~~
"Wage increases for nurses have been insignificant during the decade-long shortage, experts said. Wages stagnated in 2003 and then fell 6.4 percent in 2004, leading to a decline in nurses working at hospitals, according to the Institute for Women's Policy Research."
Show me a nurse that had their salary decreased 6.4% in 2004, much less all the nurses that made this a fact for all nurses. This isn't credible on its face. If this is an example of the 'facts' that SEIU is trying in Court, then I perfectly understand the HCA spokesperson referring to the suit as 'frivolous'.
I agree. Texas nurses could benefit greatly from unionization. However, I fear that many people here are too provincial, and are suspect of anything of which they are ignorant. Therefore, I don't think unionization will ever fly in Texas.
