Group One background checks in Texas

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have been put into group one, which is a reporting agency that allows other healthcare facilitys to see why I was terminated. I was not given a chance to resign before termination. My question is, can I request to have it changed? Is this a type of discrimination? all this is making me want to get out of healthcare all together, seems like i will allways have a disadvantage being a guy and all.

I have been reading all the posts, I'm a new nursing student. I start classes this Aug. I looked at the list of hospitals that use group 1 and the hospitals i will be doing clinicals at all use them.

What Im wanting to know,(and if it was mentioned earlier Im sorry for the repeat) if I do clinicals at one of the hospitals will my "nursing training" be added to their (group1) file on me. Or will I not have a file with them until I am out of school and take an actual job for one of these places.

(I'm in Navarro County and found our one and only hospital on the list)

You will need to pass a background screening before your school will allow you to attend clinical rotations. Most schools in the DFW area use GroupOne to conduct this background check on their nursing students.
I just heard about this 'Group one'. This is sad and scary. No wonder there is a nurse shortage! Just because a nurse may make one or two employment mistakes does not mean they are a bad nurse. Just FYI it is down here in South East Texas also. If it is not Group One, it is just like it...

Maybe there are no Unions in Texas, but we need a class action suit against these people. I worked at a hospital for 7 years. It was horrible. The charge nurses sat at the desk playing loud hard rock music. They would sit 8 hours a day and did they delegate. And the DON bragged that nurses in Texas really do not have any rights. A hospital can fire anyone at any time and for nothing. After getting off my shift at 0815 in the a.m. everyone went to the local bar to drink liquor and discuss the events of the night. I went once and decided that was just not for me. I was told I was rude so I suspect I have been reported to Group one. Do I care! Well, I would like to see fairness. This DON asked for informants. She said she could not give a raise to them but would make it worthwhile. So, as I worked myself to death, the Techs sat at the computer emailing her lengthly letters. They also played all the time on the computer. YOU TALK ABOUT BULLIES IN COLLEGE AND AMONG HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS! Well, nursing is full of bullies. You know the type! They roll their eyes when one is trying to give report, they tap their shoes and/or their pencils. They always have something sarcastic to say to undermind the reporter. We had one charge nurse. She was the most dedicated, sincere person plus hardworking. A wonderful kind intelligent compassionate nurse. They ran her off. They made horrible comments. Any hospital in DFW of worth would have welcomed her with open arms. She worked. She did not sit in the ICU with her feet propped up as did the House Supervisors. I worked ICU. That was my background. I don't know why I even took this floor RN job. We carrried 7 patients. That was really risky. In other hospitals the supervisors would do the admission record especially when the floor nurses were swamped with work. Even a charge nurse who is sitting at the computer throwing paperclips across the room could help. It is so sad that Group One does not know what really goes on behind closed doors.

i couldn't agree with you more...luckily i have not experienced the group one negative effect, but i have friends that are on there....one even said that mca paticipates in current employees and run a check every few months on current employees....i personally do not know if this is 100% true, but she said its true. as a current employee of mca, i sent in my request for my "consumer report"...and am waiting for that report to see what, if anything it may show about me.

Thank you. I hope people will wise up and get rid of this AX cutting social group. It sounds like it is a gossip column and not a credit agency. It is like looking through RN as reported by TNA. Everybody wants to see who lost a licence and why. Criminals are all ready in the Texas system so Group one can forget that. Credit. How do you explain it when a husband runs out on a wife and leave her with forclosure and all the bills. Not fair is it! But it is on record as bad credit. I think changing a name would be the best way to get around Group one.

st one.

We need unions in Texas. The DON at this hospital called a meeting and then stated we could be terminate for anything and everything. Texas nurses are afraid of unions. They stay in their miserable jobs with miserable pay and take their anger out on nurses and staff. Who can give good care to seven patients or more when the nurse is drenched in paperwork! Who can enjoy $50 an hour when at the end of the day one comes home and takes it out on a spouse or worse yet the children. I guess in my case, the nurses bought a lot of liquor! That is a great way to spend a life, isn't it! I don't mind a drink, but not for breakfast thank you.

It is me again. I had a fracture and ended up at a sister hospital. The physicians there were in control. They would not allow a nurse to carry more than four patients. The techs were wonderful. I could not say enough about them. They took my vital signs. They served me a fresh pitcher of water at 0800 and again at 0300. I thought I was in the Hilton. AT my hospital the technicians refused to give the patients water! No fresh pitcher. We finally got them to carry ice cubes around but they refused to give water to everyone. If I questioned it, I was told "She already has water." Right, a stale pitcherure of water that has been sitting on the table for over 24 hours." They refused to do vital signs. They said it was part of the nurses' assessment. The physicians don't come with B.P cuffs, thermometers when they see a patient. They rely on the staff. Why have techs who sit on their A## all day. Our DON is afraid to criticize them because these techs are her informants. Little Hitler. And her back up is a THREAT TO GROUP ONE! I am changing careers. I am getting out of that. I will be caring for patients, little patients and I know I will enjoy it. I care and I love caring. I did it all. I got my patients water. I dusted off their table tops. I cleaned their commodes. I gave them pain medicine on time. I cannot say that for my peers. But I came home totally frustrated. And I did resent the attitude of the techs especially over the water. One tech from another race absolutely refused to give patients water. She acted very indigant if she were requested to do her job. To me, that was a personal hangup on her part. But she did spend 3 to 4 hours reading the Bible on her job. How could she miss giving a fresh pitcher of water?

She missed giving a pitcher of water to anybody because she was being paid to read her Bible.

Don't you know Europe laughs and laughs at the USA because of the lack of security for employees. To them, it is a big joke! They say in the USA it is always "hire" "fire." We are the BUTT joke of the world and so is our health system. Nursing leads all fields in terminating people. Who is incompetent here anyway? I'd say management is a farce. We CARE! We CARE! OH, DO WE CARE! These people can't even make one decision without fear. AX everybody around you and I guess you will stay #1.

First time I've heard of Group One....Just another entity to add more pressure to an already overstressed profession. So now have to worry about what your upper management...that has forgotten where they came from.... has said about you, cause they just don't like you personally.

Sounds like nurses need to stay away from Columbia HCA hospital. Have several in our state. Applied 2-3 times never got hired and glad I did not. Sounds like a place nurses should stay away from.

Just wondering if anyone has appealed what Groupone has revealed in a pre-hiring background check ? And if so, what was outcome and what did it take to clear your name. I am realizing that former employers will do just about everything but hire a hitman to ruin your life. I was written up x3 in less than four months with no previous write ups for 7 1/2 yrs. prior to first write up. Even with all that has happened, I still refuse to be abused and keep quiet. I did everything according to their policy to dispute my manager's actions but because co-workers do not deserve to lose their jobs for speaking on my behalf it was my word against my manager. Yes, Texas needs better employee rights to protect those who are bullied by employers or at least give employees a fair chance to defend themselves against the BIG ONES( large organizations, law, etc.). I'm still fighting because after all, this is the right thing to do and because I have to. My children and I have medical expenses that have drained my retirement account so I need the benefits employers can offer and oh ya pay mortgage and for groceries. It sucks one has to fight like this just for the ability to support their family. :crying2:
