Group One background checks in Texas

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have been put into group one, which is a reporting agency that allows other healthcare facilitys to see why I was terminated. I was not given a chance to resign before termination. My question is, can I request to have it changed? Is this a type of discrimination? all this is making me want to get out of healthcare all together, seems like i will allways have a disadvantage being a guy and all.

I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this company recently and what the outcome of that was. I have a friend of mine that was an LVN and is now finished with school. She applied at a local hospital and was told that they could not hire here, due to she was listed on Group one. Not knowing what that was she looked it up and was told that due to her "absences" several years prior when she worked for and HCA hospital, she was placed on Group one. She was told the way to fix this problem would be to go back to work for that hospital as an RN. I was like WHAT??? This appears to me to be blacklisting and that is illegal. So anyone out there have run ins with this company?

I will be contacting them in the morning, since I also worked for this hospital.

This is one of the reason I no longer want to be a nurse. I have been unemployeed for almost 1 yr. I wonder if the reason I have not been hired is due to this. As a side note, I have never recieved a bad review. Always above the standard when I worked there.

Thanks

From their site:

"All terminations are reported to GroupOne when they occur, and are added to our database. When an applicant applies for a job at one of our member hospitals, their employment history is already in the database, ready to be accessed. Because our service operates in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we are able to provide our members with factual employment references without the fear of litigation."

"GroupOne Services is a "consumer reporting agency" operating under the legal authority of the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This is very important because it provides employers the ability to share information on former employees through a third party reporting agency such as GroupOne.

Under the FCRA, employers who furnish such information are immune from "any action or proceeding in the nature of defamation, invasion of privacy, or negligence . . . except as to false information furnished with malice or willful intent to injure" the former employee.

GroupOne accepts full responsibility for ensuring that all of our practices and policies are fully compliant with the requirements of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, thereby maintaining our clients' protection. We back this responsibility with professional Liability, and Errors and Omissions Insurance.

They are required to provide you of a copy of the report they supplied to a prospective employer, just like the credit bureas do (transunion/equifax) if you are denied credit. They will tell you they don't, but by law they do.

One word alone could quell all this hysteria and cowardice by nurses when it comes to employment u-n-i-o-n. Best damn vote you well ever cast and more important to your direct, everyday life than who you vote for during the presidential election.

Just found out today I'm on the list... this thread's been dead for a while but I hope someone still checks it out and can help.

I have interviewed with 5 HCA hospitals in the DFW area... interviews went great.. got the "you'll hear from HR with an offer" speil and then BAM. never hear anything else... Well, yesterday one HR manager called to ask me about three things showing on Group1... That's the first I've ever heard of this!! I explained the situations and she said she'd notify the hiring manager and see what she wanted to do...

This morning got an email "Thanks but we're pursuing other candidates"... so yeah. It does keep you from getting a job in that sense. I'm not a crook or a felon. Got my first speeding ticket this year. Never hurt a patient or fired for breaking policy...

Item #1 - two years ago I applied to Baptist in San Antonio - after interviewing and having an offer made I called to decline since I wouldnt be moving there after all. HR assured me everything was fine and I could always feel free to reapply in the future. Know what happened? I got reported as "No show to hospital orientation." LIE

Item #2 - two years ago I went to work for a hospital in TYLER (NOT EVEN IN DFW!!!!!) The night charge nurse had it out for me.. call it personality differences or maybe she didnt want a guy on the unit who knows.. she began writing me up for EVERYTHING she could think of... I kept having to meet with the manager... get coached... etc.. and finally after her making me first admit 5 shifts in a row (with an admit each shift) I got fed up and quit. Didn't give a two week notice. I KNOW now that that was a bad decision... but at the time the conditions were HORRIBLE. Now I'm flagged for "Quit without notice."

Item #3: Worked in LONGVIEW, TX (Again not DFW - wth???) worked there about two months... was driving back home to Shreveport... fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road on I-20... as I'd almost done many times before. Decided I couldnt do that to myself anymore. I was afraid of confrontation so again didnt give a two weeks notice. I have everywhere SINCE then... just made two bad decisions with two week notice. It's not like i injured a patient or stole narcs, etc. Just a bad decision... know what? Flag # 3 for "Failure to give notice"... so now I'm screwed.

Question - is Group One only used by DFW hospitals? Like - if I moved to Houston could I get a job?

Question - How long does this stay on your report? If they truly fall under the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) then isnt negative information only allowed to stay 7 years as with other credit reports??

My travel contract (which I used to "relocate to dallas") is up in January... kind of freaking out since I just got an apartment and everything else in preparation of relocating.... frown.gif

Group One is spreading across Texas from what I understand, particularly to Houston. All of DFW pretty much uses it. Obviously by your situation more than just DFW uses it.

I have no idea how long it stays. I do know if you are truly going to contemplate an attempt at legal action you won't want to be posting about it on any Internet forums. Good luck!

Is groupone associated with hopsitals in HOuston, Methodist, st. Lukes, Memorial Hermann, and HCA hospitals in Houston?

Thats what Im trying to find out. I called them and they wouldnt give specifics but said a couple in Houston use them. I know HCA is in bed with them up here so I would guess HCA there is as well.

Hello to everyone! I was recently placed on the "GROUP ONE" i'm retaliating against you because you didn't resign LIST. I am a whistleblower and proud of it. Because of my big ovaries, an HCA facility has once again abused this system. I am suing them for retaliation. Anyway, i would like to know who would like to work with me in getting some sort of justice regarding this abuse. Isn't there a nursing shortage? Let's do the math...nursing shortage percentage? total amount (%) of nurses on the blacklist and blackballed? hmm...curious? me too. I will be fighting this by myself or with all of the nurses out there who have been a victim of this type of retaliation. All the nurses in Texas should fight against this regardless if you are on this list or not. Things could change for you tomorrow. These hospitals are bullies and sometimes it takes just one person to get the ball rolling...and that person is ME! This abuse is so ridiculous and makes me embarrassed to be a nurse in Texas. If you are a bad nurse...dangerous...well then the State Board will handle you. If you are great nurse and whistleblower because you did right by the patient and then ended up blacklisted...then that is just wrong. I want to know who wants to fight this with me...because i will not give up. Any ideas? please share!

Does anyone know how you would find out if you were placed on Group 1? I was denied a job due to a misdemeanor that showed up on my group 1 background check from 9 years ago and I am concerned that they may have put me on Group 1. Are they required to tell you if they took such action?

Go to the website and pay$10.50. If you unemployed, among some other stipulations it is free. But this has got to stop!

how many did you get to help? I need to do more research but they are beyond words, terrible. I am contacting the Labor board and other bodies, because I may be put on it for not finishing my 2 wk notice even with a MD note.

You are correct, The BON will handle the big stuff. This is nick picky stuff.

I have several nurses interested but we need to do more research and figure out how to fight them and what we are fighting. How legal are they? They are getting loop holes. NO way is this HR correct. Give me your thoughts. Let's not dally!

I'd be very interested in seeing this operation shut down. I haven't graduated yet, and hope to never run afoul of this thing, but the fact that your boss can report you to this list and there's basically no recourse scares the bejeezus out of me. It's definitely not right, but it may take one heck of a legal fight to bring it down.

What website???
