MUSC ABSN Spring 2015

U.S.A. South Carolina

Hi everyone!!!

I wanted to go ahead and make a thread for MUSC's Spring 2015 hopefuls. I know it is a little bit early to start this thread, but I am just so excited. I am looking forward to everyone stats and encouragement for each other. Looking forward to the results!!!

Do you have both work experience and volunteer? Is it possible to get both the 5 pts plus the 3 pts for volunteer

I'm not sure on the points for both. You can email Mardi or Rachel Plauche and they should be able to help answer that question. I would try Rachel Plauche. She is really quick at responding!

Thank you. Do you know her email

Oh my! I haven't been receiving emails about your posts. I'm ready for my decision letter! MUSC is my first choice. I've been accepted to two other programs, but obviously the Acc-BSN track tops 'em all! C'mon MUSC!

My pre-req deficiency says 9HS Humanities, what does that mean?

9 hours of humanities? I thought I had it all, I have 17 hours of humanities

You get the most points for your GPA then the other stuff comes into play. They want a well rounded student. So points in all categories are important. However, most out of state spots go to priority out of state applicants.

This is for sure the case, as I was accepted priority and I do not have any hands-on clinical experience! I did spend 8 months on a paid internship with the VA hospital, but that was mostly administrative stuff, and I am also a veteran, so I think I got points for that. I think I read somewhere that overall GPA is weighed 75%.

Hey all- I'm Laura, I've been silently keeping track of this thread for a while, but now that the date of acceptance is getting closer and closer I can't stay silent anymore. To make this waiting process more grueling, my sister got information about her acceptance last October 16th. She started Spring 2014. If her process is any reflection of our class of potential students, then we are 2 weeks away. Oh dear.

Also following up @musckim, Rachel Plauche is no longer with the program for questions/reviews. You need to be in touch with Lyla Hudson at [email protected]

Yes what Laura said is right Rachel is no longer there. Her emails will be forwarded, though it would be better to send them to the correct person.

Laura, what were your sister's stats upon acceptance?

Hi Laura and welcome to the waiting club! LOL. And thank you for that little piece of information. :)

Hey Baffy, if you think you had all your requirements and you aren't currently taking any classes I would email or call admissions to find out what they are talking about. Sometimes, people do make mistakes, so it's good to just check up on that. I really hope it is just a mistake on their part. Keep us posted Baffy.

Laura, what were your sister's stats upon acceptance?

My sister posted this on her Spring 2014 Thread last year: "3.6 overall, my prereq GPA is largely incomplete because three of the courses are in progress, but I've taken Micro and A&P and got Bs in both. I volunteer at the Children's hospital but do not work in the medical field. I'm hoping that my background is different enough to make me stand out... I studied English and Biosci in college and have worked as a retail manager since graduating. My references are very strong and my essay is great, I just worry about the incomplete elements in my grade book."

Thank you that makes me feel a little better.
