Just one of those days.... so many kids for very generic things.... had a kid come down for a stomachache that she's had for "weeks", but was miraculously better after I asked her what would make her feel better... a few kids with "head aches" that were able to rush down to my office, and were both all better around the time of recess. Two kids with chapped lips, which the teachers thought it was ok to send down twice for some vaseline. A cracked blister that had popped two days ago (she'll be back each day for the next couple days... this is a common thing).

Usually, it's pretty good in here.... just not in the mood today. Apparently, there is a party in my office today, and I wasn't informed....... Feeling a little frazzled. Let's hope tomorrow is better. :wacky: Anxiously awaiting winter break..... *sigh*

I'm seeing the same stuff. I had a teacher today call my office about 2 minutes before I was set to leave. She knows what time I leave. She said this kid had been c/o her mouth hurting all day, but she decided that in the last 30 min of the school day the situation became critical. *le sigh*...Little kid comes down. I could see she had chapped lips the minute she walked in. Seriously, teacher? You couldn't have sent her up for a little vaseline at say, 8:30 this morning?

I've seen a lot of sinus headaches (gotta cold front moving through) and vague stomach aches. Interestingly, buffalo chicken nuggets are a cure for stomach ache. Lots of paper cuts and "head injuries"--you know the kind,"child leaned under his desk to pick up a book, bumped the back of his head on the underside of the desk." Oy!~

Then I have my 5th grade diabetic who has discovered the Holy Grail--vomit in school a couple times and they send you home! What joy! Grrrr...mom says he never throws up at home, but he has thrown up every day this week and he threw up every day of the week prior to our Thanksgiving break. Yeah, he has missed 15 days of school this year just for suspensions--he's a bully and very big, threatens other kids, hit, curses, and just last week threw his bus driver to the ground...10 years old...and not only that, he lies about his blood sugar--I can't trust him at all-- and manipulates adults who don't know much about his disease. I saw this kid times yesterday and 5 times today--and his mom picked him up at 12:30~! He's about to drive me ANd his mother to drink.

UGH I hate days like the ones you are describing! It's like they all just want to see me and make sure I'm still here. Hang in there!

Today seems to be a bit calmer, but that sounds like my day yesterday. Especially coming off from having a few days off mixed with half days for conferences, i can;t believe how many kids i had to grant permission to poop to. And there seems to be some issue with the new math text books, as they seem to be causing massive headaches

Today seems to be much better over here, too. Thankfully. I was ready to pull my hair out... and could not wait for the door to shut behind me as I left yesterday.

Hopefully things continue to move smoothly today. :yes:

I wonder how much easier your job would be if schools hadn't become so ridiculous anymore. My kids have had coughs before (you know the constant cough that annoys everyone around you) that were easily relieved with a luden's cherry cough drop or even a peppermint candy. Of course, kids aren't "allowed" to have candy at school because it's not "fair" and you can't send something as simple as luden's cherry because it's a "medication." Parents are probably afraid to even send Carmex for fear that they'll be locked up as if they had taken Oxycontin to school. I guess I'm just getting old.

My son had to go to the school nurse this week, he may actually be a frequent flyer and I only get calls when it is serious. He tripped over his own feet while running in gym, slid across the floor, and banged his head against the concrete wall. It was nicely bruised. If the nurse hadn't been there to make the booboo better and do a neuro check, I would have had to go get him when I was supposed to be sleeping to prepare for another night shift. So thank you to all of the school nurses, I know it isn't the most glamorous job but you are appreciated.

Frequent flyer? HAHA...I've heard that term a million times, but for some reason associating it with kids in the clinic just cracked me up! Btw, I think my daughter is a "frequent flyer" too...haha. She'll say her stomach hurts, her head hurts, and nothing is wrong with her. I dunno what her deal is.

On the other hand, I think the secretary at the school might think I'm nuts. She called one day to tell me my son had fallen and there was a big knot on his head. I was like....okay? do I need to come pick him up? She was like....well, we just like to let people know so they can come check if they want to. I'm like...so...he's awake? His ears aren't bleeding? I ended up going and picking him up even though I knew it wasn't necessary just bc I felt like they thought I was a bad mother or something since I wasn't worried about it! There was a time when I would've taken him to the doctor (and I have) but that was my pre-nursing days. :roflmao:

I have always been an under reactor. I would have saved hundreds if I just went with my instinct instead of listening to others. I don't go get my kids unless they are truly sick.
