Been thought of as the bad guy?

I been thinking that some of these parents think of me as the bad guy, which is hilarious when I'm trying to help. And all they do is complain to the front office girls about me.

The 2nd mother who yelled at me about her child's immunizations came and literally complained to the front office lady, who in turn was upset with me and I'm like, "I don't care if she's upset or not, I'm just doing my job and I won't let anyone yell at me." Which is true, but I can't but think that after I do my next batch of immunizations these parents will brand me as evil or something, which is stupid, when I'm just doing my job.

Oh no, the thing is it's not the teachers. I don't hear a single thing from them, but if I do they come directly to me and we solve it. I mostly get smack from the front office and the parents. I have the teachers and APs behind me 100% as long as I'm going by the book and we agree with the idea.

One of the reasons I changed schools recently was because the principal said "ALL the teachers" complain about me and what I decide (that I either send someone home or not). But really? Because I am friends with a bunch of them and they have not said one thing to me about it, actually a few are totally shocked I left there and not happy because I covered their butts many times!! I always say "if you have a complaint or a question as to why I do something ASK ME!"

They have NO IDEA what rules we need to follow and what we go thru, I wish there was some way to make them understand. But they only see what they want.

If they do, that means I must be doing something right.

I wish I had your guys tough skin... I wish I could be like this or learn how to do this.

Write them back. I had 2 teachers that did that to me when I first started so I started writing back.

"student has fever a needs to go home"--> Student temp is 98.2, no signs of illness, can stay in class

"Student forgot snack, give him one" --> Sent him to the cafeteria to see if they have extra fruit, because i don't

"Student is REALLY sick"--> Student spent the last 5 mins bouncing around my office, no fever, no signs of illness here. You can call the parent if you are concerned

It all stopped within a week of me writing back and we are good now.

What about the one where the teacher writes, "student needs ice." I'm looking like for what I don't see any swelling, bruising or any sign of injuries.

Seems everyone has nursing or medical degrees from The University of Google School of Nursing or they are doctor's licensed through WebMd and Wiki.

I'm too tickled! But you are so right!

I will admit that I over use ice. It's magical and it makes a little one go from sitting in here crying for 5 mins before I calm them down to a two minute visit because the ice "made it all better". I've iced many an invisible injury because I don't always have the time to teach about pain vs discomfort

It takes time.

You can only control yourself and how you respond to others.

What kind of reaction? Swelling at the site? Low-grade fever? Soreness? Dizzy/nauseous/nearly fainted? All of those are non-adverse (and predictable) reactions. Parents don't understand (and it's not well-explained - at least it wasn't in my kids' pediatricians offices) that there are predictable reactions and adverse ones. Swelling is not an adverse reaction.

A true adverse reaction needs to be reported to VAERS. And you're right, have the parent contact the physician.

I am finding more and more that the "education" that my students and their parents get in the clinics is terrible. I'm teaching more and more parents and kids things that should have been covered by the clinic staff including how to use an inhaler properly.

I'm the bad guy alot of times and on occasion make Facebook with "that school nurse is making me do this or that" and guess what I LIKE being the bad guy...cuz i"m just doing my job! Love rubbing their noses in it when it comes back to haunt them later. :)
