Does anyone have foot pain? Bunions...plantar fasciitis...arch problems? How do you deal? I'm not a nurse yet but my feet already hurt!! Long walks and short runs kill my feet (bunions at the ripe age of 22). Spill your tips here please

My daughter has to get steroid shots for some joint issues. The doctors have told her that eventually the steroid shots will break down the bone, and may make the problem worse later on. My ortho has encouraged me to get one (I haven't) only every 6 months or more, for that reason. So don't go immediately for steroid shots until you have tried to handle the problem by changing shoes, etc. It is a good idea to rotate your shoes, so they can dry out between wearings. You probably don't realize your feet sweat! My cardiologist has his entire staff wearing support hose~ he prefers the Jobst brand.

What kind of socks do you guys like?

Thorlos are very good, but Smartwool is my favorite. Both are expensive, but properly cared for last a long time.

My mother-in-law has lasting problems from bunion surgery several years ago. Anyone tried non-surgical treatment? I may be too far gone to be a candidate. Really need to get the surgery done in the next two months if I'm going to. Not sure what to do.

Investing in your shoes is important. Some people like tennis shoes, some people like Alegrias, some like Danskos - I am a Dansko girl myself. I have much less foot pain than I did before I started wearing Danskos. I agree with the rotating shoes tip - that is why I have seven pairs of Danskos. Don't let your feet get used to just one pair of shoes. I also double sock most of the time. I wear my knee high compression socks, then I have other shorter socks over those, usually some kind of thick sports socks. My feet have never been more comfortable.

I'm a Dansko girl myself, and probably own too many to count to rotate through, and feet have drastically improved..

I used to wear compression socks when I first started in the business; but since I changed to wearing Danskos, my feet and legs are not as tired.

I always suggest someone to get evaluated or at least check in with a podiatrist occasionally for any issues; also when choosing the right shoe, it's best to have someone who knows about feet to steer one in the right direction; not every shoe is created equal to all feet.

If shoes don't bend with my feet, I don't wear them. This even goes for my heels. In fact, every shoe that I put on my foot, I have to NOT be able to feel it at all AND it had better not flop. When I forget that I'm wearing shoes is when I know I have found the perfect shoe! I am a big fan of Skechers and I always wear socks unless I'm wearing sandals. I never go barefoot even when I'm in my home. Another fact, when I went to have a pedicure, the technician took one look at my feet and assumed that I was a regular at the nail salon. He was shocked to hear that this particular visit was my very first pedicure (I was 46 years old then) in my life (and my last). I'm far too ticklish to allow anyone near my feet! :roflmao: Yep, these size 7s have served me well.

Never going barefoot (even at home)is something the podiatrist told me to avoid too! It's hard for me! I'll try Dansko's next I've heart nothing but good things. My mum has got me shopping on Footsmart.com,which I'm so thankful for lol. They have amazing products for like every foot problem.

I have tried some nonsurgical approaches: toe stretcher(you wear it at night its available at walmart and online) , massage, heat and ice..motrin

I could do better in choosing shoes, I'm 22 so honestly I still pick what is cute . I'm going to pay for this lol but I'm getting better and choosing smart shoes;) Good luck!

Excuse my ignorance but why should one wear socks at home??

:)

One can do whatever one WANTS to do at home.;) But for me, as a child, I had extremely sensitive skin and EVERYTHING caused me to break out. I could not touch anything. My mom had to wash the curtains and bed linens everyday and I could not let my skin come in contact with anything. Oh, it was horrible! I finally 'outgrew' that condition and except for doing laundry everyday, old habits die hard. So, I keep my feet protected by wearing my socks except for the occasional sandals that I wear during the summer months. I tried walking around barefoot one day and it just felt funny having my feet touching the floor.:yuck: I'm sure there's therapy for that somewhere.:D

I saw a podiatrist for my foot pain and he recommended stretching that helped some. But my PCP referred me to a physical therapist who specializes in foot disorders and he changed my life! He told me the exact cause of my foot pain, made me custom orthotics, and told me the type if shoes I should wear. He also told me to always wear compression socks while working. If you have seen a podiatrist but still have foot pain maybe try a physical therapist. It really made a difference for me.

I wear teds, and I love the way they make my legs and feet feel. They really help with my aching legs and swelling.

Does anyone else find that sometimes after a 12-13 hour shift your feet and ankles sometimes swell up? I have knee high compression socks but hadn't thought about picking up a pair of TEDS.

I have bunions at 23. Ugh. I love my FILA tennis shoes. They are wider and have memory foam bottoms. My feet no longer throb and ache! Yippee!!
