What Prerequisites Does Your School Have?

I'm curious to see what prerequisite/support courses are required at everyone's schools. I go to Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA and the nursing prerequisites/support classes that can be taken before admission to the nursing program are:

  • English Composition I
  • English Composition II OR Intro to Public Speaking
  • General Psychology
  • Lifespan Psychology
  • General Biology
  • Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Anatomy and Physiology II
  • Microbiology
  • Introduction to Chemistry
  • Statistics
  • Nutrition
  • *Diversity credit (I took Spanish)
  • *Humanities credit (I took Public Speaking)

65 credits total.

Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology were the only 3 pre-requisites needed to be completed in order to apply/gain acceptance at my community college in SoCal. Developmental Psychology was needed to be completed before the pysch rotation or you would have to skip a semester. In order to graduate WITH the ADN/ASN, then you needed to complete the general associates degree classes (such as freshmen English composition, college algebra or stats, etc etc etc, list goes on).

My school is an ADN program in northern Colorado. I needed A&P I (they recently took A&P II off the prereq list, but you need to take it by 1st semester if admitted), Micro, Human Growth and Development (and Psych 100 is a prereq for that), Nutrition, and English Comp I. We didn't need to take a med term class, but you got extra points for taking one. Stats, Chemistry and a few other classes are required for transferring to a BSN program, but that varies by school.

The same as the OP without the nutrition and diversity pre-req. We also have to have Intro to Sociology.

I'm going to OHSU, prerequisites for their 3-year OCNE BSN program are 45 quarter credits which must include:

Anatomy and Physiology I-III (Can apply with just the first two quarters complete)

Lifespan Human Development (Psychology course)

Intermediate Algebra

Nutrition

English Composition I & II

6 credits of Social Science electives

It's a four year degree.

At my community college, I only need two more classes for an Associates of Science, so I'm getting that degree, too. For that I need Speech and a core language class (I've chosen World Religions). And to maximize my financial aide, I'm taking Medical Terminology, too.

So I need 60 credits, but when all is said and done I'll have 69.
