Ughgh!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I'm near the end of my pre-req journey. I took my pre-entrance exam early so I could retake it again if I needed to, but wound up with a high score. I'm taking clinical math and Human development this summer, so all that I had left was A&P II and Micro, and Tech writing. I had NO idea that fall registration happened at the same time as the summer registration, so of course, the two sciences are completely full. I had planned on clinicals in the Fall of 2012, which is RIGHT before I turn 40, so I'm discouraged now that I'll have to wait even longer. Not sure if I can manage both sciences in the Spring semester (I work full time too). So, I know if you snooze you lose for classes, but UGH! Just disgusted right now.

Jen3p, I feel your pain. I have had that happen to me before. What I suggest is finding out what the last day for payment is for the Fall semester and very early the next morning check the classes again. If your school is like mine a few of those already registered that did not pay are dropped from the courses giving others the chance to register. Hope this helps!

I agree with NewStart2010.

Also, don't get discouraged. I went back to the university at 37 thinking I was going to finish an Acctg degree. Half way through it, I decided to switch to Nursing (I'm skipping a long story here). My point is, time will go by no matter waht, continue to pursue what your heart tells you is the right direction. I am 41 now and have had to repeat 5 classes, but I keep going. I believe we are where we are supposed to be, there is a greater plan for us and we will reach our goal when it's right for us.

Last time I failed a class (last February), it pushed me back 4 months. I was very distraught and depressed. Then I remembered the advice I just gave you, so it brought me peace. No more than I came to terms with it, my sister took a turn for the worse with her cancer. She passed away 2 weeks after I failed that class, and it was because of that failure I was able to spend day and night with her in her last week of life. I applied the little things I had already learned in Nusing school and even had my stethoscope. A couple of the nurses even asked me if I was a nurse because I had them on their toes.

Anyway, I don't want to venture away from you. I wish you patience an perseverance. If you keep on moving along, you will get there. One advice is to take Microbiology by itself. It is a handful course. You're going to learn so many new names of microorganisms, enough to give you nightmares! ... but it's worth the journey!

Keep your chin up and go with the flow!!

Keep checking everyday to see if someone drops out, also the first couple of days of class people drop out so there is hope.

You may also try talking with the professor. Find out if they give you an auhorization to squeeze you into their class. If their class tend to always loose students on the first week, then you luck out!

If you show up on the first class and you overhear someone ponddering abotu dropping out, jump at the chance of talking with them. You might just be able to take their spot.

I know it's a lot of hassle, but these are just examples in case you're willing to go through that. Good luck !

Thanks all! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I did email my A&P I professor, and did find out the purge date for those that didnt pay. So, there is hope yet! Just kicking myself that I let a registration date pass - I'm one that is online ready to hit submit at 8am typically.

This is true about people dropping after the first week, see about getting on a waiting list or find out policy about picking up open slots during first 1-2 weeks. I am 39 and just finished pre-reqs also working full time so I understand how frustrated you must feel...like time is ticking and can't afford to waste it. I am looking forward to the day that I am working as a nurse and look back and say I'm so glad I sucked it up and did this hard journey!!! Best of luck to you.

Great news!! After stalking the registration site 6 billion times a day, I found ONE opening in the A&PII class I needed. I couldnt believe my eyes that it was open, and with a shaky hand (was scared I wouldnt be quick enough!), I got in. I've since checked my registration five times to be sure I actually did get in. SHEW! Lesson learned there! :D

I took one of my pre-reqs at a very expensive private school, just because they had seats open and the community college course sections were all filled. Cost me a lot of money but it kept me on track.

Ask the department about waitlists! The biology program at my school has it since bio majors and pre-nursing students are all trying to squeeze in

Hahaa! Awesome. This is the exact way I finally got a coveted and hard to get class. Persistence with a touch of OCD. :yeah:
