The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club: A&P 2

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all! Just thought I'd go ahead and start this. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas (or whatever you celebrate!) I'm very much enjoying my family time right now.

Spring semester starts January 5th for me, and I'll be taking A&P 2 and College Algebra. Hope to see lots of you posting here like last semester :)

We're taking our Digestive/Urinary exam (exam #4) on Monday, then the cumulative final on Friday. NEXT Friday - and them I'm done.

As it stands now (you may remember that we get one exam grade of the 4 dropped - the lowest, and now it is TWO lab grades dropped), I have an 84 average with the 3 exams (got a 69(!), an 85, and yes indeedy, a 100 on our last exam!!). My lab average, minus my lowest two scores, is a 103, so no problems there. I'm studying like a madwoman for exam #4, but if I get lower than the 69, which I hope not, it really doesn't matter, since I'm still over the 80 mark.

Our cumulative final won't have any essay's (thank you God!!), but will be come directly from all of our other exams, including the essays, just in a different format.

I'm debating putting a lot of energy into exam #4, knowing that it CAN help, but I don't desperately need it, or just focusing on the final, which I'd need to know the stuff from exam #4 anyway.

Luckily she does post the essay questions a week before the exam, so I've been working on those since yesterday, and re-listening to my lecture voice memos. There are so many enzymes and stuff that we need to know! Mind-boggling sometimes how they expect to know all of this stuff within a week!!

Sweet! Your situation is almost exactly the one I am in. I did get a 69 on a test. I'm trying to hang onto a B. Our final is the same format as yours. what's going on here?:chuckle

here is the rating for my teacher that I had for A&P 1. Some students were able to actually study hard though, and wound up with A's:

Horray!!! It's OVER!! My last exam for A&P 2 was on Monday:) I didn't get my grade on the final yet, but I figured out that I could get a 70 on it and still keep my A. Ah, this has been a long semester...lots of studying! I can't believe how fast it went by and I'll miss the subject, but I'm looking forward to moving on. I'm starting micro in June, so I'll have that to keep me busy that's for sure. Anyway, best wishes to all of you taking finals!!

:balloons: WOO-HOO! I had my last lecture final in AP this afternoon - feel pretty good about it. I got back my lab final today and got 98% - I am not complaining! :balloons:

But, it isn't over yet. Thanks to the 'bigwigs' we have to take a cumulative final from 101 & 102. However, she says that since we didn't know about it last semester (in 101) it won't hurt our grade, but if we do well, she will give us the points. Can't beat that, I guess. If you don't take it, you don't get a grade. :angryfire Thought about making pretty patterns on the scantron sheet :chuckle

Anyway, good luck to the rest of you that are studying for finals. You will make it through!

By the way, magz80, I will be taking Micro this summer, too. It is a 8 week session starting 6/13.... Good luck - we will have to buddy up!

Congrats on the A!!

We *finally* took our 4th exam on Monday - and while we don't have the results from that yet, she did post a completed 4th exam that we could use to study for the final from. Our final is on Friday. All the questions will come from the 4 exams - nothing else.

I've been studying the first unit we did, and boy, did I forget A LOT!!! I don't feel I need to study the stuff we just had the exam on (urinary and digestive), but she did say she is throwing in some reproductive that we didn't even STUDY. All she did was give us a handout a week ago.

I was very disappointed in how this class and lab were done. We did our course evals the other day, and I gave them my honest opinion! She was always at least a week behind the syllabus, if not more, and all our exams were delayed by a week or more. In one case, almost THREE WEEKS! Very poorly done, especially for $633/credit hour!

I wish I knew what my grade on exam #4 is, because we get our lowest exam grade dropped (which hopefully be the damn 69 I got on the endocrine one!), and I like to figure out how I need to do on my final.

Then onto 2 religion classes this summer!!

Traci, awesome job on that lab grade!! Congrats:) I start micro on June 1st and it's an 8 week class. Do you think we'll be bald after this or what..lol? I'm really nervous about taking a class as demanding as micro in 8 weeks, but I want it out of the way before I start my nursing classes this fall. We should start a summer micro thread when the class starts! Let me know how you make out and good luck on your final!! I know you'll do great.

Whitney,

I know how you feel....waiting drives me crazy!! It really stinks when you have a lousy instructor...trust me I know. I had the teacher from hell last semester and I could not wait for that class to end! Let us know how you make out. Stay positive and study hard for the final....it will be done and over before you know it. Good luck!!

I'm so sick of studying this stuff!!!

Friday is the final, and I've all but given up on studying the endocrine stuff. If I didn't know it well enough then to pass, no way I can learn, or re-learn, it in a day and a half. So I'm concentrating on reviewing everything I did know, and a few other things. I hate feeling behind the 8-ball! I'll be so glad when this is done, and I've found out I made the required 80, and can burn the A&P 2 book (well, won't do that, but will give it to my very eager 8yo son, who thinks it's better than any Magic Tree House book!).

Lucky you guys who have finals this week...ugh i am only on week three of AP2! i like it much better than Micro though!!! I had the best teacher for AP1 and a crappy one for AP2...6 more weeks....6 more weeks....good luck everyone on their finals!!!!!!!!!!!!

:o I graduated in may 2003 and started fccj in jacksonville florida in fall 03 to go into the nursing program. Now 2 years later I was hoping to apply in the fall to get a january start but I am worried about the requirements. I was just thinking that as long as i pass my classes I will get in, which is not the case.

I have take-English Composition=C

-human growth and development=C

-sociology=c

AP1=C

AP2=B

I still have a humanities, microbiology, intermediate algebra and college algebra. I am taking micro and intermediate algebra during the summer then college algebra and humanites in the fall. I am almost positive that I will not get in because of my grades. However I do not want to sit around doing nothing for a whole semester. Im just really frustrated because I don't know what to do. Should I try to take some classes to become a cna or a pn? I also have been coming to this website and I am very confused about how I would start. What would I be considered if I have no experience in the nursing field? Would I start at trying to become a cna or lpn or pn or what? I guess in short could anyone list the ranks from the bottom up to masters?

i got my final grade for a&p2 lab and it's an a!!!

after that 61 in my first practical, i expected to get at most a b-. i dug my heels in and

did very well in all of my quizzes, made sure to do the extra credit work, and scored a's on my last two practicals. also, i believe my instructor knew that i was recovering from bronchitis on the first practical, saw how hard i was working to make up for that horrible grade, and decided to do something really nice for me. whatever the reasons, the a & p2 gods are smiling down on me. good luck to everyone!

Hi,

there are classes to become a CNA...they very in length depending on what state you are in, here in Ohio we only need 80 hours so we have 2 week classes from 8-4...usually CNA classes arent too difficult and after you pass you can go and take the state test, after you pass your state test you will be an STNA (state tested nurses aide).

The ranks for nursing:

CNA (completed the class but not state tested)

STNA

LPN

Diploma programs (prepare you to sit for the NCLEX but you do not technically have an associates degree, usually hospitals will offer these programs)

ADN (associates degree in nursing)

BSN (bachelors degree in nursing)

MN (general masters in nursing)

MSN (masters of science in nursing)

PhD (doctorate in nursing)

the diploma program through the BSN will prepare you to sit for the NCLEX and become an RN.

The masters program will also do that but usually require some sort of initial degree or require that you are already an RN. There are several bridge programs for ADN's and BSN's to become MSN's. There are also direct entry master programs for students who hold a bachelors degree in non nursing fields who wish to study nursing at the masters level. Masters students often have then intention of CRNP (nurse prac), management or teaching.

dont forget we all have to start somewhere! If you decide to become a CNA or STNA, Long Term Care Facilities (LCTF) are a good place to start. Good luck! Hope this helped
