The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club: A&P 2

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all! Just thought I'd go ahead and start this. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas (or whatever you celebrate!) I'm very much enjoying my family time right now.

Spring semester starts January 5th for me, and I'll be taking A&P 2 and College Algebra. Hope to see lots of you posting here like last semester :)

Well, at least in the way of lecture exams. Took that baby tonight, because I came down with the flu Sunday night and missed class yesterday - yuck! - and feel pretty good about it. Covered lymphatic, respiratory, digestive and minimal nutrition. She sure didn't cover any of the 'tough stuff' I thought she would - like "gastric secretions". Oh well - I am not complaining. It will probably be 2 weeks before we get them back now.

Hang in there everyone, this semester is winding down. It sure has been a bumpy ride, at least for me.

How is everyone else doing??? Haven't heard from some of you for a while!

Talk to you soon - hopefully with an exam grade :D

Hi everyone - our group got bumped to the 2nd page!! I know AP2 is tought, but where is everyone????

Well, I hope you are all well - studying hard. Surprisingly we got our exam back today - that's what I get for running my mouth (see above). Or most of it anyway, she still hasn't graded the (2) essays - which account for up to 10 pts. However, even without the essays - I GOT AN 87!! Not bad for feeling half-dead when I took the test! Now if I can just 3/10 points on those essays, I will be thrilled.

Started urinary system today - wow what a b**** this chapter is going to be!! It is very interesting, though.

Well - everyone - keep up the hard work and check in and let us know you are surviving!!

Hi everyone! I am taking A&P 2 right now. We are studying the respiratory system. We just got done with lymphatics. I really enjoy the class I find it very interesting. So far I have gotten 100 & 102 on the lecture exams, and a 97 on the labs, so I am doing well. I hope to get into nursing school & start in Sept. I am going to sign up for microbiology this summer. Anyway, thanks for letting me join! :)

Welcome Graciesmommy! There are usually a lot more people on this board, but I think everyone is studying very hard :)

Those are great exam scores! How many lecture/lab exams do you have for the semester? I guess my question is how many chapters do you cover before you take an exam? Unfortunately, we only are having (3) exams and that is a lot of material to read/retain/apply - as I am sure you know!!

Anyway, I am also taking Micro this summer (8 week session - yuck!). We will have to start a thread to help each other through!! As for me, nursing school is still about a year away. The way our school does it means that you have the best chance of getting in if you have all your pre-reqs (or at least 8/10) out of the way. With app cut-offs, etc, that pushes me into next Fall. That's okay though!! It gives me plenty of time to get these pre-reqs done and get good grades (which they also score you depending on the grade you receive).

I hope you visit often and that you will find this a warm, welcoming place. A place to share joys, sorrows, victories and defeats and know that you are in good company :balloons:

Take care - happy studying :p

Well, I have taken 4 quizzes so far and am averaging a 90% in those. My problem is

I got a 61% on my first practical. A D-. I have NEVER scored anything like that before.

I had been suffering through a bout of bronchitis, on a couple of different meds, one of which contained codeine (sp?). Needless to say, I was feeling kind of loopy. During my illness, I studied to the best of my ability. I sat down at the test feeling pretty confident but kind of out of body. Anyhow, I took it, floated on home, and told my husband that I thought I did pretty well. When I got my exam back, I was shocked to say the least. I knew the answer to the questions but couldn't understand why I marked what I did. I can blame it on the illness and medication but I won't. I messed up. Now, I am going to study my behind off and make sure this doesn't happen again. I have two more lab practicals and 4 more quizzes. I believe I can bring this grade back up to a respectable B, possibly and A if I really know my stuff.

Well, I took my second practical and scored a 94! I have been holding pretty steady with my quiz grades. Mostly 100s and a 104! If I could just score a 100 on the last practical and keep my quiz grades up, I believe I could actually pull out an A. Wish me luck.

Alexillytom - way to go on the 2nd practical! Are you taking your last one anytime soon? Good luck on it!!

I was rereading your original post about taking tests while medicated - doesn't that stink! You would think you might get a 'break' for actually taking a test even though you were sick, but no - it seems like its expected out of us to do well even though we can't hold our heads up...

Oh well, semester is coming to a close and we will be moving on to something even more fun

Hi Traci!

Thanks for answering my post! We have maybe 3 or 4 exams for the semester, generally the exam covers 2 chapters I'd guess.

What months will you be taking micro? For me it will be July/August.

I think you're doing the right thing getting your prereq's out of the way! I have only been taking 1 class per semester (sociology last year, a&p1 last fall & a&p2 now) And I'll tell you, having only one class makes it real easy!! I work and have an 11-month old at home, and I feel like I'm not compromising anything with one class. Plus I've had 100 average both last semester & this one. I don't know how people with more than one class, work & a family do it! :)

Where are you going to school? I'm in South Jersey going to Atlantic Cape Community. It's nice to "chat" with you!

Thanks. Actually, I'm not sure of the exact date but I believe it will be the last Tuesday in April. Next week I will have a quiz on the urinary system plus an extra credit assignment that will count as a quiz. I can't wait for this semester to be over.

Kathy,

I was in the same boat you are not too long ago - though my children are older. I was working and my son was in kindergarten, which made it real tough for scheduling classes and/or finding a sitter. Well, I took 2 semesters off, quit my job, got my son into 1st grade & my daughter into 3rd, and here I am. I think you are doing an awesome job at not compromising anything. I think I was trying to do too much and got overwhelmed. Things are better now - but it is hard when you have an 'over-achiever' personality (me!).

Anyway, I attend Ivy Tech State College in Bloomington, In - as a 33 yo mother & wife, the 'prestigous IU' is sorta out of my league :p It is great to meet people this way going through the same issues - all around the country. Sometimes I feel like my husband will choke me if I complain one more time about AP2 :chuckle

As for micro - I will be starting 6/13 and going thru 08/08 - roughly. It is an on-line course; however, we have to attend a lab on Mondays from 12:30 - 4:30. That's not too bad for summer, I suppose.

Again, welcome, I look forward to talking with you more!

I think everyone is hitting the books!

Last week we had our 3rd of 4 tests... and it was on soooo many chapters! We had about 70 multiple choice and fill in questions and then 6 or so mini essays. We also had our lab test in the same session which was about 35 questions with 6 or more essays.... too many to even count at the moment (too tired).

It was taxing and I was exhausted afterwards. It took me 2 1/2 hours to complete and I usually am pretty fast. This was the longest test so far.

I got my Lecture test results (97) and will find out next Tue what the Lab test was. I am thrilled with 97 because I took it when sick with a stomach bug and didn't expect to score above a B. I am a little less sure about the lab test than the lecture tho as the essays required were longer. Whatever happens, I'm good with it. It was a really good test.

I am even happier to say that one of our study group buddies got a 109 on her lecture!! :) :) She got 100 plus bonus points. Yay Cortney! She did great!

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Hugs!

Great job, Maryrose!!

I have my 3rd exam Monday, on Lymphatic and Respiratory. Lymphatic is kicking my behind! I've listened to the lectures over and over, but still get so confused with the Specific Immune System. We get the essay questions posted a week before the exam, so we can write our answers, but mine are so wordy (the result of wayyyy too many Creative Writing courses!) that it makes it hard to learn. I emailed my answers to the prof, and it turns out I left out a whole bunch of info, so had to basically redo all of them.

I have to do well on this exam! If I fail this course, I can't take it again for a whole year, since it's only offered every Spring, and once matriculated, we're not allowed to take courses elsewhere. :(

My saving grace MAY be my lab grade, since all my quizzes are above 80. She's dropping the two lowest quiz grades, and that puts me at 101 avg. for lab. My avg, with 2 exams, in lecture is a 77. We need an 80 or above to pass.

This is so frustrating, because I've never gotten below an A in any college course. Ever. I feel so dumb that I breezed through A&P1, and every said that is harder. Not in my book! (maybe I HAVE the wrong book??? LOL)

Plus we found out that our final for this course is on a freakin' SATURDAY, at 9am! It really ticked off the prof, and a great deal of us students, that the college couldn't find any other time for a day class to have it's final. Normally Saturday's are for the finals of evening/weekend classes - not us day ones. A lot of students already had plane tickets home, b/c the final had been scheduled for the Thursday before.

What saved my buns on essay questions is my trusty dry erase board.

I write and rewrite one essay at a time until I know it by heart. Why the erase board is easier than paper for me who knows!? But it seems to be easier for me to do it this way.

My buddy, Cortney, who got 109 on lec test, also does the dry erase board. She has another technique that I think is great too..... she puts post it notes around the house with test q's she is needing extra help on. She says it really helps a lot! She has them on her bathroom med cab, fridge etc.... but hey if it works do it!

Good luck on your test..... you can do it!!:)

Hugs!
