Shows, things, or people that motivate you to persevere

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

The thread says it all. Things/people that inspire you...

Shows: I'm gonna try to watch Grey's Anatomy 'cause I caught a glimpse of it and it inspired me a great deal to pursue the medical field.

People: I Have this classmate in A&P who's taking A&P, Micro Biology, Math 150, Chemistry 102 all in the same semester! Talk about genius! I also have a cousin who is in her last year of general medecine. I so wannabe like them.

The shows that keep me motivated are the reality programs on Discovery Health Channel: "The Critical Hour," the paramedics show, etc. Not the reenactment shows, but the ones that offer the "real deal."

Interesting thread. Thanks for starting it.

Might sound weird but... "Doctor G. Medical Examiner" fascinates me and I also LOVE "Women Docs" (I think it's on We channel)

Being at the hospital itself inspires me.

Nurses in the past who have helped me. The NICU nurses with my daughter, my labor and delivery nurses, the nurse who took care of me after my gallbladder surgery- the girl brought me dinner and when I opened the cover and saw fish on my plate and she saw my face fall, she insisted on getting me something else. I kept saying no it was alright, but nope, she got me another meat lol. God Bless her- I hate fish and eating my meal was a requirement for me to go home that day. She knew how badly I wanted to go home to my son (who was 2-3 months at the time) and she wanted to help me get there.

Medical shows inspire me as well, although I prefer the reality ones over the fictional ones. I like both, but the more real it is the more it holds my interest.

My beautiful daughter Rachael inspired me and continues to do so even as my guardian angel. She gave me confidence to face anything, helped me to realize that the medical community doesn't frighten me, and showed me how much I like helping others.

Also, all of the nurses who helped us every step of the way, until she passed away at nearly 8 months due to a genetic disorder, inspired me... I only remember two of the doctors, but there were so many nurses that made a difference in our lives. I want to do that for other people and I know I can.

What inspires is me is the things I have been through and the things i see everyday. my grandfather being proud of me going to be a nurse inspires me. my husband inspires me.

:kiss I saw your post, and thought, It's the truth!. My son was 14 mos. when he became an angel and also had a genetic disorder. I also only remember a few of his doctors, but the nurses were the ones there with us all the time, for him. They inspire me too. I have a picture of my son engraved in a necklace. He's in a santa suit smiling at me. He'd had a stroke a few months before, and couldn't look at me or smile, and all of a sudden he started looking at me and smiling, so I ran for the camera! When I have a tough test, or I'm just tired as heck, I look at that picture, and think, if he can do THAT, I can do this.

The movie Rudy, that awful day 9/11, Patricia Cornwell books, I know there's more but I just got off 12 hour shift and I'm sleepy. Hurricane Katrina. I just want to be able to help in an educated and meaningful way. Once had a guy drop to the ground in front of me and had no idea how to help him. That was a great motivator, never felt so ignorant or useless in my whole life. Now I know what to do. I feel better. Education is such a wonderful thing.
