Need advice on how to proceed

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I am 30 years old and decided to go back to school and get my diploma. This is my second semester and by the end of May I will have all my prereqisists for nursing school. However, there are co requisits (anatomy, physiology and microbiology) that I do not have because biology that I am currently taking is a prereq for these classes. My gpa is 4.00 but nursing school is very competitive and I might not get accepted this year. It means I have to wait Sept 2017 to start the program. I will be 32 and that bothers me as I also want to get BSN and eventually masters.

Is there any way I can go through school faster? I was thinking maybe private schools as I heard they offer BSN that is 3 years long (including prereq). But they are so expensive. I am desperate that I will waste a whole year just doing co requisits.

Nursing sees many career changers later in life. The fact that you are 32 doesn't mean all that- people start nursing school later than that and go back for further education older than that. In the scheme of things, 1 year isn't all that much time, especially if it means you aren't paying out the nose on student loan repayment.

32 isn't that incredibly ancient. (Not that I believed that at 32.) But I think it's a good idea not to saddle yourself with any more stress or debt than you need to. Take it as it comes. Hard not to be impatient with oneself. Just plug along and stay open to opportunities that present themselves. I'm sending you good vibes.

Thank you for the fast reply.

Yes, I understand that. I am thankful I am not paying much now while I am doing my prereq (community college). The only problem is I dont know how hard it is to get a job as ADN and also I want to have family in few years and have no idea how to make that work out.

I have members of my cohort up in their 40's OP. don't let age deter you, take care of those grades and everything will fall into place

I'll be 46 this year. At 22 I dropped out of an ADN program. I spent many years in the corporate world while missing and regretting wasting so much time... I'm studying my tush off now and hope to be accepted also. You go for that BSN! It will be the new standard by 2020 if it isnt already. You are in a great place as far as age goes! If you have the will, there is a way. Just be careful about degree mills.

Good luck!!!!

Thank you everyone. It means a lot to know that I am not the only one who starts a carrer later in life and also that I will be just fine.
