Microbiology Scare

So as some of you may know... I am a pre nursing student. I currently have a 3.7 and I am going into my second semester of pre reqs. I decided to take Microbiology this coming semester (Spring 2013) because I felt that I wasn't ready for anatomy and physiology. So, I'm waiting for my classes to start and at first I was really excited. Especially because of my labs. I have lab twice a week instead of just once a week like last semester. (I LOVE LAB! WOOT! ) But then I found out on RateMyProfessor that my teacher wasn't so great... So, um, instead of being happy and excited like before, I am now scared like heck... I really don't want this to go badly and it's too late to change... I pray that I can get an A out of this class... Oh my goodness, I am soooo scared...

Don't be scared! Though I can totally understand why you may be. A horrible teacher can make a class 10x's worse than it should be. Since it's Microbiology, which is a class I hear it really challenging, you don't need any factors that will deter you from doing your absolute best! Go in with a positive mindset and if you are having trouble, show the teacher how serious you are about getting an A. Most teachers, good or bad, will more than likely help a student when they see that the student is giving 100% effort! Good luck to you! I am taking Microbiology this semester as well! My class meets once a week as does the lab! It's going to be tough!

Don't worry! Your GPA proves that you work hard. Microbiology can be challenging but for the most part it is a very fun class. If your teacher is terrifying by add/drop date maybe consider speaking to an advisor about switching. It's your education and you have a right to feel comfortable with your professor. Even so, if you are using the same book I had.. it's all you really need

I honestly think taking a&p prior to micro is detrimental in success. Most schools I know a&p is a pre req to micro... There were quite a few things that came together for ME due to the fact I knew and did well in a&p. but good luck to u

I'm sure you will be fine. Just because someone has a bad rating on that site doesn't mean he or she isn't a good teacher. Two professors I've taken classes from were rated horribly, and comments said to never take classes from them and that they made the classes unnecessarily hard. But, I made As in both and enjoyed both. In the end, the class is what you make of it.

Micro required a lot of memorization. Most schools offer free tutoring services. Don't wait until you are behind to ask for assistance. Enjoy yourself. Micro is fun! You will be fine, just keep your eye on the (RN) ball!

If you're taking Micro because you think it'll be easier than A&P, you may be in for a shock. I found A&P MUCH easier than Micro. A&P, especially Anatomy, was pure memorization. Micro is memorization and a LOT of understanding HOW things work on a microscopic level (such at the Kreb's cycle, cellular respiration, Glycolysis, ect.)

I'm taking A&P I and Micro together this semester. I was lucky to get 2 highly recommended professors, but they are bothe rated two of the hardest professors in the school. It is what it is, I know what I'm signing up for in getting my BSN, it's hard work and takes a lot out of you. Regardless of your teacher, don't give up. You could always drop the class if your a week or two in and don't feel like it's going well.

No I meant what I wrote. Taking a&p prior to micro is best in my opinion.
