Wait wait , wait.... you mean to tell me, that I will not be using imaginary numbers in nursing??!!??[/quote']

Of course you will. The management that considers our ratios as including our manager, and nurse educator in the census, even though they will not be touching any patients. This allows HR to report a nurse/patient as 1/4 or 1/5, when actually you will never have less than 7 or 8 patients.

I think that the OP is a pre-nursing student who needed to vent like any other college student......We have ALL had times when we were in school that we thought "Am I REALLY ever going to really use this crap?" :banghead: Yet we graduated and passed boards...I think it is important to note that this is STUDENT FORUM where they come to vent frustration and voice opinions.

I think that we can ALL understand where the OP is coming from and empathize with his/her frustration at the moment....AND if we disagree we can do so politely!!!

I hate math too. But if I can use a calculator with some equations then I'm ok. Math is the one thing that kept me from going to nursing school. I faced my fears and will be soon be finished at my school for LPN. Just thinking about having to pass a drug calc test every semester with a 90% (for the RN program) gives me anxiety so bad. But I'm gonna try.

I'll say, math wasn't my friend when I was younger :arghh: Haha. It took me quite some time to understand it. The really funny part of this whole thing is I got better at math after taking pre calculus >_

I totally understand the frustration with math, & the pre-algebra formulas. As someone that has struggled, but since have passed. . There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Basically passing the algebra says you know how to factor & reduce fractions (long story-short). This is important in nursing as we as nurses still need to verify certain doses of medications. We can't always just depend on pharmacist for the correct doses. They are human too, & can make mistakes. Our licence depends on that.

Just hang in there, don't give up. Get some tutoring. Good luck!
