Loyola University ABSN Fall 2017 Admits

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to start this topic to see who my potential classmates might be. I was admitted into Loyola University Chicago's ABSN program for Fall 2017. I'm really excited to hear about the program and what to expect, but I'm not seeing as much content as I hoped.

Does anyone know what the schedule looks like for a week? Just how early and how late we have to stay on campus..?

Also, how are you all paying for this?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am applying to Fall 18. How long did the acceptance process take?

Hey everyone,

I am also applying for Fall 18 and would love to hear more about the admission process and get insight on the program/clinicals. Would anyone mind sharing their stats? I have a 3.48 cumulative GPA and a 3.51 for prerequisites. I will be graduating with a BS in Psychology this December.

I look forward to hearing from you all!

First semester ABSN-er at Loyola here. My undergrad GPA was a 3.4 (BA, psych) and my pre-reqs were around 3.7. We needed a B in science prereqs and a C in non-science (but I hear they might lower the B science requirement for some of the harder classes). The admission process was pretty quick; I applied in early January and heard back 3 weeks later. The application itself is straightforward and they don't make you jump through a ton of hoops. The earlier you apply the better because there are a limited number of spots.

Like I said I'm early in the program (week 5) but it's really intense. This week and next we have a combined 5 exams and 3 competencies. It's an insane amount of reading and I am having to plan every minute of my week in advance to keep up. I'm not working, but I know people who somehow are. One thing I'd recommend to anyone going to LUC (or any medical-related program, really) is to get your immunizations & CPR training sorted out as soon as they send you the e-mail about it (like 3 months before the program starts). You have to get a bunch of titers and provide documentation for everything and it's a huge pain to deal with after the program has started.

Happy to answer any other questions. The program really is exciting and it already feels really worthwhile. Just make sure you know what you're in for.

Thank you so much for your insight. Do you live in Chicago?

If you don't mind me asking, do they offer you loans? I heard they don't give out a lot of financial aid, especially those who have hit their cap.

I live outside the city a couple of miles from campus. The ABSN program is on the same campus as the hospital and med school in Maywood.

I qualified for a couple of smaller Stafford loans but I'm paying for most of my tuition with private loans. There's very little - if any - scholarships for the ABSN program because everyone in it already has a bachelor's degree.

How far is Maywood from Chicago? Thank you for sharing I know finances can be private. I heard they don't give you much money. If I do go to their ABSN program, I'm not going to be able to work. I was thinking in my head how am I going to pay for this. Do you have any tips on which private loans to go through or around how much they'll give you? Is it realistic to live off the private loans?

I was just accepted for Spring 2018 at the Maywood campus. I have a 3.46 undergraduate GPA (Public Health), but I never calculated my prerequisite GPA for Loyola. I had mostly As and Bs in all of my classes, minus a C in an organic chemistry lab and a C in the history course they wanted me to use. I submitted my application on 9/1 but my university took forever sending my transcript. Once they received my transcript, I received my acceptance letter a week later.

I can't speak to much else because so far I haven't received any more information lol just to pay my deposit, which was $500. I've mapped it and Maywood is about a 25-30 minute drive from Chicago. Someone I've spoken to that is in the program said that people do commute from the city to Maywood though.

Do you remember how long after you got accepted it took them to further communicate with you on what the next steps are? I was accepted a week ago for Spring 2018 and haven't recieved any info on my next steps. I talked to my admissions counselor but I'm 95% sure she started in like August and doesn't know the answer to half the questions I ask. When I asked her she said that the next step would be getting an email about class registration in November, but I'd assume that there would definitely be more steps than that.

I applied mid August and got my acceptance letter September 19th. My undergrad GPA was 3.35 by my science was 3.8. Not a lot of hoops to jump through as the application process was pretty straight forward! The counselor I talked to said we should be getting more info on next steps in the coming weeks.

I just got accepted for the Spring 2018 program. Does anyone plan on relocating? I am, and looking for a roommate preferably that will be in the program as well...

I just got accepted to the Hybrid-online ABSN at Loyola for Spring 2018. Is there anyone else who is part of the Hybrid program? Ive been told that I would have to travel to Downers Grove campus 2-4 times a week but the rest of the curriculum is online.

I got my acceptance letter pretty quick. Applied Sep 1 and got accepted Sep 18. My Undergrad GPA is 3.2 and science GPA is 4.0.

I am working on my immunizations right now and its a pain. You have to submit proof of each immunization by the time you register for classes which is sometime in November.
