Loving anatomy, NOT loving Micro

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello All! This is my first post here. I am a married mother of 4 and I've been in school for the last 2+ years working on all my pre-reqs for nursing school. I applied for the LVN program, but I have one more year before I can apply for the RN.

Anyhoo, I'm taking anatomy and micro this semester. I have noticed most people have a combo A&P class? Ours is separate, I will be taking physio in the fall. We have started working on our cadavers and I was the leg dissector on Thursday, it was awesome! And, I did a really great job, if I do say so myself ;)

I am so interested in my anatomy class; I have received "A's" on all of my lab and lecture tests so far. I absolutely despise micro :( It is so boring to me and I have a hard time with all the concepts; I think the fact that I have a boring/poor instructor doesn't help. I have a "B" in the class right now, I am hoping I can pass the class with at least a "C". I can't imagine having to take it over again!

I won't find out if I got into the LVN program until May. I hate having to wait so long!

that's too bad, micro was my absolute favorite. info from that class such as hiv falling into the category of "microbes easiest to kill outside of the body" just left me stunned. really fascinating. anyway! we all have our preferences, hopefully your micro instructor doesn't totally kill all of the material :( good luck!

Wow we have a lot in common, Mother of 4 here also, been working on my prereqs longer though but I did stop for 1.5 years to have a baby and become a resident of the state I moved to before starting the prereqs again, I only had Micro left to do. I start nursing school this fall.

I was the opposite. I struggled with A&P and struggled with Micro to but I surprisingly found Micro really interesting. I was very surprised by this just for my own ick factors I had. Our A*P was combined but it was put into a 2 part class where you did the first one and next semester the second part.

I think there are links on this site to helpful online resources, but you can goodle as well. What is it you are having a hard time with right now?? If I can help at all I will try. I did have to take the class over but not because I failed the first time. I was seriously ticked off over the whole thing. The grading system here at my school in CO is different then my school in WA. When they said you had to have a 2.5 GPA for nursing on your pre reqs I wasn't worried because the only classes I struggled with were A*P but in WA you had to get a min. of a 2.5 to pass. I got 2.6 and 2.7 in the 2 A&P I had a 4.0 in Psych and Sociology but those didn't cound here and a B in English 101. So anyway I took Micro here and I was 16 points shy of a B in the class. But I wasn't worried since like I said I got above 2.5's on the rest. Well when my grades transfered they put it how their system does it. My 2.7 and 2.6 transferred to 2.0 and 2.0 my 3.7 in English 101 was put to a 3.0 and so on. So I found out AFTER I finished Micro that I didn't meet the GPA and I would have to retake one of the Science Classes and get a B in it to meet the GPA. MAN WAS I ******. Had I known I would have pushed to get those extra 14 points to get the B in Micro. I mean I struggled with it but I didn't push myself either because I knew as long as I passed I was in the nursing program. Well since I took A and P at another school in another state it made sense to just retake the Micro since I had just had it. That go around I came in 4 points shy of an A. I was so bummed, I mean it was the B I needed but I was like shoot I might as well got for an A at this point. In the end I am glad I retook the Micro though, I had such a better understanding of it after taking it again and it has come in handy in my Patho Physiology class.

Anyway, try to find some resources that will help you understand it a little better, something that works for you, it sucks when you have a sucky teacher, it really takes away from learning.

I wish you the best of luck.

I'm in A&P 2 right now and I love it. I haven't taken micro yet but I keep hearing mixed reviews about it. I'm sure you'll make it through! Good luck!

Ladies,

Just be glad you don't have to take micro where I am taking it!!!

Ask anybody on this forum, I've been crying my eyes out since January because I have the micro instructor from.......you guessed it!!!

And to add insult to injury, I've already had this horrible class but because some

horrible, insensitive idiot with nothing but time on their hands decided that any

sciences over 5 years was Too old, I'm having to re-live this nightmare so I so

totally feel your pain! Thank God Almighty for this forum!! There are truly Angels here:)

I haven't had micro, but I'm taking anatomy. It's alright. We work on a cadaver which I thought would make things easier, but it actually makes it that much more difficult.

Good Luck!

I can see that I missed out working with cadavers. I am a little disappointed. That would have been a wonderful experience.

I agree, I hated micro. It was so hard and I took it Hybrid so that was worse. I was really disappointed when I ended up with a B

Sounds like you might attend my college!

I took Micro at the university where I earned my BSEd and I honestly don't remember it being very hard. I remember it was interesting.

However, at the school I'm at now, I've heard horror stories about Micro! I am sooooooooooo thankful I already took it AND it transferred even though its ten years old. :yeah:
