 Hello all, I applied for the Duquesne University School of Nursing 2nd Degree program in May of 2005 and just got my letter yesterday that I wasn't accepted. I am 4th on the waiting list. I am an accountant and I hate my job. I gave my life to Christ and felt that he led me to become a nurse. After looking at my options I applied to Duquesne. I loved what I was learning and did very good. I was one of the first to submit all of my information and they really liked my essay. I fulfilled all but one of my prerequisites for the program which would have been done this summer. My grades were pretty good A's and B's except I did get two C's. I did everything they told me to and was so ready to quit my job and become a nurse. I view this site at least 4 times a week. I watch the Discovery Channel. I assisted my sister with giving birth a few weeks ago and decided I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. I had to pay for each and every class and book and attend class for over a year while going to working full time and raising 4 teenagers and being active in church. Now I have to stay at this god-forsaken place and I can't get in and have to apply again and wait another year to see if I might be accepted. I feel like a total loser!

Please don't feel like a loser. God has a plan for you and he will guide you in the right direction. Please always remember that everything happens for a reason. I know it feels that you are at a loss but please do not give up. You will make it. My prayers are with you and I know you will make it through this difficult situation in your life.

i know how you feel. i have had jobs i have hated too! in any case, i want to encourage you. you are not a loser! losers do not have the ability to understand accounting concepts. take it from someone who knows! ;)

secondly, i know you feel trapped but i don't think you have to worry. i think you were trapped before you started to finish up your pre-reqs and before you applied to the program because you did not have hope to change your situation. now you do; being number 4 on the wait list sounds good to me.

there will be people who will not accept his/her seat for many reasons. there will also be people who will not submit his/her information, vaccinations, money, etc. in on time to start the program and they will be dropped in enough time for you to accept his/her place. it happens. so do not give up hope because you may not have to wait a year to quit your job. good luck and keep praying! :balloons:

I know what you are saying, but I'm going to be blunt.

If you feel God has led you down this path, do you think he'd lead you to a dead end? I don't.

You are 4th on the waiting list....that is great! Ok...maybe you don't get this semster, but how many times have you applied? If it's meant to be, and God has indeed led you down this path, you will get in on HIS timing, not yours.

If you don't get in this time, will you give up? How badly do you want it? I see all of these threads where people say, "If I don't get in, I'll change majors to Biology" or to that effect.....If you (anyone in general) aren't going to bother applying again, why waste someone's seat who really wants in?

Please don't get me wrong, I have been denied once, and know the feeling with that. However, I know I will get in when I am suppose to. Spring '06 wasn't for me, maybe Fall '06 is.

Maybe God knows your future needs, and knows you will be better off waiting. Maybe you'll end up getting in due to people not being able to take their spots.

Either way, thank God for the blessings you have. Stay at your job, if possible, save back money for when you do get into the nursing program.

Good luck to you. :)

dorselm-

Why not try another nursing school? Coming from the same city I happen to know that there are many fine nursing schools in the area, Mercy hospital being very close to Duquesne. Having gotten your prerequisites already out of the way, instead of waiting another year why not apply to some of the other nursing schools in the area? I myself went to Sewickley Valley Hospital School of Nursing which is a very fine school and not far from downtown. You can PM me if you would like. Don't give up, but you really should look around you might find another school of nursing that you would like as well. :nurse:

Hello again,

I would like to let all of you know from the bottom of my heart that I really appreciate the words of encouragement! I am going to have a heart to heart with God and see where He wants me to go. I promised Him that whether or not I was accepted I would give my testimony and this Sunday I plan to do just that. Thank you again for the prayers, ((hugs)) and blunt talking to. That was just what I needed! May God bless you all and FuntoCare I can't wait to see your post that you were accepted to school.

...AND I can't wait to see your acceptance!

On my website, I have a pic of my "DENIAL LETTER". Why? Because it is part of my journey, and proof that I have come closer to nursing school than I have ever been since I started out in college after high school back in 1991. It is a let down, but I never even came close to the point of applying before. So, while sad, I look at it as a hurdle I have cleared, and now I've moved on to other hurdles in the same race. Eventually, I will get in & finish, and the race will be over. (Then it'll be time to start a new race!) :lol2:

Cry, I know I did....and it is perfectly normal. :)

I you are called to be nurse, you will be a nurse.

And 4th on the waiting list is not bad at all. You never know how many people will not accept a seat.

There's some saying like, "If God brought you to it, He'll bring you through it." Maybe you simply are not meant to enter the program YET. Look for opportunities to shine right now. You WILL be a nurse in God's timing. Maybe you can apply to other schools in your area, if there are any. Take care.

I agree with everyone else here - God's timing and our timing are different more often than not. However, if you feel in your heart that this is a path He has led you down - stay the course. Don't give up just yet. The school I was accepted to told us at the informational meeting prior to applying that last year they went clear up to #8 on the waitlist to fill the spots!!!! DON'T LOSE HOPE!

Let me leave you with an illustration. I heard this at a women's Bible study at my church, so I can't claim it...

One of these days when God puts His transparency for my life over the transparency that was my life I want them to line up. For your example, He has something in store for you and if you make a detour now because you were waitlisted, when those transparencies are compared - will you be way over to the left when he has your life RIGHT? Think about it. Just hang in there and seek Him for solace and direction.

Blessings to you!!

Hang in there. They were telling us that last year they had 10 people on the waiting list and *every single one* of them got in. A lot of people apply to more than one school (like me).

Good luck!!
