Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

 Hello all, I applied for the Duquesne University School of Nursing 2nd Degree program in May of 2005 and just got my letter yesterday that I wasn't accepted. I am 4th on the waiting list. I am an accountant and I hate my job. I gave my life to Christ and felt that he led me to become a nurse. After looking at my options I applied to Duquesne. I loved what I was learning and did very good. I was one of the first to submit all of my information and they really liked my essay. I fulfilled all but one of my prerequisites for the program which would have been done this summer. My grades were pretty good A's and B's except I did get two C's. I did everything they told me to and was so ready to quit my job and become a nurse. I view this site at least 4 times a week. I watch the Discovery Channel. I assisted my sister with giving birth a few weeks ago and decided I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. I had to pay for each and every class and book and attend class for over a year while going to working full time and raising 4 teenagers and being active in church. Now I have to stay at this god-forsaken place and I can't get in and have to apply again and wait another year to see if I might be accepted. I feel like a total loser!

Also this is an opportunity for GOD to show he did it not you. Sometimes in life we try to make things happen instead of allowing God to allow it to happen. Last year this time I applied to a nursing program which was a ASN Program and got placed on the waitlist Guess What.....They never called. However through that experience I did not give up I continued to take classes and found out it was better for me to get my BSN. I am now applying to 5 different schools and I have faith that what GOD has for no one can take and he can give you favour with the decision makers. Keep hold to your vision because IT WILL HAPPEN BUT YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE!!!!! :icon_hug:

Hi,

I understand what you're feeling. I was all geared up for school, got through the application process and was waiting to hear that I was in--my school had never had a waiting list before, so I was pretty shocked to get the letter saying I was #8 on the list. I, too, felt that God had led me to be a nurse, and was upset and depressed that I wouldn't be able to start as soon as I'd hoped, and since I'm in my 40s, every minute counts!

My school only has 40 students that start each year, so I figured NO WAY would I get in, but within two months I had a letter that I was in! I started the program last fall. So DON'T GIVE UP! God knows what he's doing.

Maybe you should have more options such as applying to more than one school. You should always have a back-up plan. It's kinda like applying to college. You have a school out of your reach, one in your reach, and one below you (for lack of a better word). I hope that everything works out for you.

Chin up! Be happy you are as high up as you are on the waiting list. I'm on one with a 2 year waiting list (and that is just an ADN program, even though I have a B.A.) Just keep thinking that you're going to get in. Make sure they know you are ready to enroll even if someone drops out the night before. That does happen, you know. Good luck and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't make it. Have you considered other schools? I've applied to St. Margaret's School of Nursing in Blawnox. :specs:

If you're fourth on the waiting list you have a really great chance of getting in! Call the school once a week or every two week and pleasantly inquire into your status. Hang in there! You know what you want and you're going after it. That's half the battle right there.

Specializes in Med/Surg < 1yr.

Hello all,

I wish I could PM each one of you individually because every last response has lifted me up and reconfirmed that He is in control and the when it's my time to be a nurse that God will see me through it. Thank you all for your support and thanks for the people who own this site. The information and support has been phenomenal!

I'll be contacting you all again when I receive my acceptance letter.

Also, I am going to apply to different school. I've had to learn a hard lesson about putting all of my eggs in one basket!

I wish you the best of luck, and many prayers too. :)

I'm from the New Castle area. Did you look into BS to BSN programs at Waynesburg, Pitt and Robert Morris? I believe each of those has an accelerated program also. Just a thought.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
