Just 'Gotta' Buy Something! :-D

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

OK, once in a while I'll get this "just 'gotta' buy something" feeling for nursing school....whenever it may be that I get in. :clown:

Here's my latest expenditure.

bp_steth_kit.jpeg

I paid about $30 for it.... I don't know if that's a bargain or not, but I liked it. lol Although it seems like I paid about $20 or $30 for my inexpensive stethoscopes (no bp cuff) about 10 or so years ago.

I figure I can practice on B/P's since I haven't taken one in several years (except a couple of times in A&P 2 this past summer.)

I also figure I will want a backup stethoscope, just in case my Littman gets stolen, broken, or lost. (No, I haven't bought my Littman yet.)

So, what have you purchased already, before you find (found) out that you were accepted?

I'm still fighting that urge! I figure, once I know for sure that I am accepted into NS, I wil go on a shopping spree!

My biggest concern is about clinical uniforms. I have learned that we will be allowed to wear Landau scrubs only, and the color we are required to wear (red) only comes in the Tall size in one style: tapered legs with elastic waist! I am already plotting how to re-make the bootcut pants so they are longer-maybe even buying one extra pair to use as extra fabric to add to the length of the legs (perhaps a faux cuff that is top stitched in place?). My husband says I'm obsessing, but he's never had to wear too-short pants, has he?

I'm also eager to buy my Littman, and I've got a wish list of nursing school help books at Amazon.com. I want most of the Incredibly Easy series, and afew others that look interesting too. And I'll need to start looking for shoes early, especially since I wear a hard to find size.

I hadn't even thought of a BP cuff (can you say sphygnomonometer three times fast?), but it would be good to practise with it since I haven't used one in over a year.

And I really think I will need a "Nursing Student" t-shirt to sleep in once I am really a nursing student!

I really like the look of your BP set. Nice color!

lol....well I figure I'll save the 'expensive' stuff until after April. (If I get in.)

The little things I buy are things I can use whether I ever go to nursing school or not. ....Always handy to be able to check a BP, if you know how.

I've already bought a storage clipboard, NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy & a Dosage Calculations book to study. :)

I already receive one nursing magazine, and want to subscribe to the Incredibly Easy magazine as well....not to mention buy the books too. :chuckle

My train of thought: I don't want to be hammered with the need of all expenses at once. :roll

My A&P teacher (Ivan the Terrible) recommended for me to buy a medical dictionary and I did.... it was in the 'special nursing section' of the book store. I am too far from my dream so I tiptoed around....I've got to win this microbial war....I bet my bloodpressure is sky high.... you can practice on me I'll gladly be your guinea pig

Specializes in start in NICU 7/14/08.

I was going to buy myself 1 item each month to prepare...stethoscope one month, light pen, BP cuff, scissors next, shoes/uniforms next...etc. Spread out the expenses so to speak.

Then I started with A&P II and Micro this semester and I started to doubt I'd start nursing school this fall. Both are going well so far (thank goodness) but it's been a busy and very stressful semester and I am so anxious about getting through these classes. Even though I'm accepted for this fall, I started to worry about failing A&P II and not being able to start on time.

I decided I'd just horde my $$ instead and have a major shopping spree after this semester from hell ends! :)

That reminds me, I also have bought a set of 3 bandage scissors, and a medical dictionary. :clown:

The medical dictionary was purchased at the beginning of my A&P 1 off of Ebay only because I know how much it helped me as a medical assistant. So, I know it will come in handy. :)

I wish you all the best! I guess buying something 'medicinal' puts it all a little more real for me. :nurse: ....Makes it all not seem so far away.

I have a subscription to Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, and bought the book Nursing School Made Incredibly Easy. I also bought Saunder's Student Nurse Planner but it seems awful bulky to carry around, though it does have a lot of good reference material in it. I wonder if it will be prove useful or if I should just list it on Half.com and use a regular student planner.

I think it's a good idea to buy a little at a time. I should know for sure about NS sometime next month, and then I'll start amassing my stuff!

Is it a good magazine? I have the card filled out to order, but I keep forgetting to put it in the mail. There was a card to order it in my AJN magazine.

I'll find out April 15th.....and if it's an acceptance this time around, you bet I'll go crazy! hahaha

Luckily, our scrub uniforms use black pants, and I have seen some really cute flare leg scrub pants! :clown:

I guess I need to make a wish list. That way, I get EXACTLY what I want from mom/hubby/whoever feels like picking something up. lol

PDA/Littman Cardiology III/at least 2 uniforms

My mom bought a new voice activated microcassette recorder for me for Christmas. My old one kept messing up. I really wanted a digital one, but oh well, it will do justice. (One less thing I have to spend money on.) :chuckle

buying something medicinal makes it all real for me too :chuckle in my case it's plenty of Extra Strength Tylenol!

I got that fancy Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing & Health Professions, 7th edition....let's hope it won't be outdated before I get into a program I can see my grandchildren finding it in the addict in about 50 years and laughing about how stupid people were way back in 2006 :chuckle

I REALLY do feel like crying....I'll retest my microbes tomorrow :(

And I keep my fingers crossed that you get in in April and get to use your pretty BP equipment.

I know it gets stressful. Just try to keep your eye on your goal.

It will be all worth it in the future. (((Hugs)))
