Joliet Junior College TEAS & RN Spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Well it is finally here, and I take the TEAS exam at JJC next Thursday. I have been studying for over 2 months, and I still do not feel ready. I paid and took the ATI on-line TEAS exam A twice. The first time I choked, and the second time was in the 80's. I am applying to the JJC RN Spring 2015 program. Just curious if there are any other students out there like me getting ready to take the TEAS? :nailbiting:

Hey, October 1st is almost here I'm hoping we all get in! Mind me asking, what did you get on your TEAS and your classes. Goodluck to you!

All my classes are completed with a 3.8 gpa. I scored a 77% comp and 76% reading. I did really well on the paragraph part of the reading but I realized I might be running short on time and rushed through the rest and didn't do that well :/

I applied for nights for Spring 2015.

I also heard unusually low # of applicants for this application period. I believe scores were low too. I actually had someone else's scores placed on my transcript in the 30s and 40s. Thankfully I checked and caught JJCs mistake and they put in my correct scores. I just hope that whatever scores were put into that students transcripts were actually their own and not someone's scores like mine that were more than double their scores. Anyways, here's my grades:

teas comp 81

teas reading 91

a&p l - A

a&p ll - A

hlth 109- A

pysch 215- A

pysch 101- B

eng 101 - C

so I think my gpa in THESE classes is 3.53

I wish I took college more seriously when I took 100 level classes but I didn't know what I wanted to do at the time. But I don't think it will hurt me that much. I feel confident that I will get in. I scored decent on teas and have met all requirements.

I'm taking micro now during this waiting period.

ALSO for all future applicants: unless there is a mistake on JJC website, they are no longer looking at teas reading. They are taking teas science instead. But they are guaranteeing admission if you score 80 and above composite (unless everyone scores above 80, then they go to the ranking system). Or if you score 79 or below, goes to the ranking system.

Nursing Admissions Criteria

but also if you go to the webpage where you click on 2014-2015, it's still says teas reading. So they may be changing it coming FALL 2015 or SPR 2016.

Oh wow, I don't remember seeing all these changes when I applied. I hope it's for the Fall 2015. I'll stop by and ask someone at the nursing department tomorrow. I looked over everything and it actually makes more sense to set up admissions like that. I say that because I did not see anything stating that you have to complete the prerequisites to be accepted into the program. So it seems like if you score an 80% comp on the teas that you're automatically in. Which means you can take your A&P's, heal 109, etc while taking nursing courses. (Of course some of the nursing courses have prereqs) If I get in the first semester I will be taking 13 credits and only 8 credits a semester after that. Only taking 8 credits is slowing down the time-frame in which I hope to complete my MSN. The new system seems like it would speed up the time taken to earn you degree. I will be a 4th year student when I finish the program if I'm lucky enough to get in with that low of a teas score :/ I did score an 85% on the science though, to bad they didn't take that score instead of the reading this semester lol

Yes I agree. We are going basically 4 years for a 2 year degree....

What I did to improve my teas score:

I took the teas in the SPR 2014 semester, without studying, just to test it out. I knew I would be applying over SUMMER so if I did poorly, these scores wouldn't matter in my nursing application because they were in different semesters. At the end of the teas, ATI gives you a guide on where you need to improve. So I studied those areas. The nursing dept will mix and match and take the highest composite and highest reading(or now science) in different semesters. BUT it is only beneficial to take teas once per semester since they only look at first scores each semester. Hope this tip helps someone. It was worth the extra $60 to take the teas in a previous semester of planned application period.

It's effective after this application period, so it is for the Fall 2015 and so on. Great job on your grades/scores, hope we all get in I know the TEAS was super hard. I really want to get in now, so I don't have to take any more TEAS or HESI's for 4-year universities lol!

So chemistry is no longer needed to apply to the program?

It doesn't look like it but I would confirm with a nursing advisor.

So I stopped and talked to the lady in the nursing department today and she confirmed that the new admissions will begin for anyone applying to get in for the 2015 Fall semester. ALSO........she said keep an eye out because acceptance emails might go out today!!

OMG OMG OMG. Good luck everyone!
