Have to get it out of my system....

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Have you ever had a moment where you are so stressed by school that you just hang your head and cry. I am there. My dh is sympathetic, to a point. I only have one more week before finals, but this one class is literally making my blood pressure rise.

Here are a few of my 'complaints' about the class:

1st it is Advanced Human Physiology and the way our school does admission is they rank each class with a certain number of points based on your grade. This class is the heaviest weighted course of all of them - 32 pts for an A; vs. 12 pts for an A in Psych or 24 in ANP 101/102. Okay, add to that stress the fact that we have a new instructor - from IU - that wants to make our course on the same level as the one at IU. While I'm grateful for the challenge, it seems unfair when there are 2 other sections being taught by a different instructor at an easier level. I am not just saying this - they know it is true because they went as far as to compare the instructor's tests.

Okay - well, beyond that, his testing style is unlike anything we have ever been exposed to. Every question is a critical thinking question. By the time I finish with an exam - I am mentally exhausted. The first exam's class average was 66 and the 2nd was 67. I got a 90 & an 80. The 80 being the lowest score I've received since returning to college.

Finally, we have one lecture prior to the exam and we still have 1 1/2 chapters to cover - RENAL of all things! Difficult stuff! I am so stressed out that I can hardly stand it. I am at the point where if I don't score at least a 75 on this last exam, I am looking at a B. I know that a B is a good grade, but when you are a 4.0 student and this is the heaviest weighted class in regard to admissions, this really stinks!

Am I being a brat? I mean we started with 25 people in the class and we're down to 15. It isn't just me....

Thanks for letting me vent! :angryfire

I hope you feel better just by getting that out of your system. ;)

Take one day at a time. Study as much as you can, but take breaks to allow your mind to soak in the information.

You are almost there, you can do it!!!!! Good luck!

Yes I have been there- I feel for you! I was so stressed out back in molecular/cell bio that I went home and vomited after the final- I had the same " critical thinking" type prof- I mean her questions were from mars! My BP rose to needing meds..JUST since I started school.

Take a deep breath- it'll be ok. You're almost done. Practice relaxation things..whatever relaxes you...and take it 1 day at a time.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

Sorry to read about your situation. Keep your head up and give it your best. Good luck

Thanks to all of you. This place is so encouraging and I knew that you would understand. Good luck to all of you in the final weeks of this semester.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

Good luck. Hmmm......if you don't make at least a 75 you'll make a B, and you've never made lower than an 80, and your many points above the class average on those other tests. Those are pretty awesome oods in your favor. Something tells me you're going to get that A and should stress a little bit less.

I understand though. Hang in there, it's almost over.

That's what my sensible side says. Maybe I can just allow that side to come out for the next week. Final is a week from today and grades are usually posted by the next day. So, 7 or so days and it will all be over. I just need to keep repeating that to myself ;)

Thanks!

I feel for you! Keep me posted on your progress...how much longer do you have to deal with it? I thought my suffering would be over next Tuesday. He informed us today that we will NOT have our grades posted by Tuesday - that it probably won't be until the weekend! Good GRIEF! Make us suffer just a little more - will ya?

Keep in touch with me. I will be thinking of you :)

Thanks, the final went well for me. But since we had to also take lecture test 4 that one was the most horrible test he has given us! He didn't give us the information we needed to know everything for this test. I felt like punching him out.....luckily I can drop one testgrade and this one will have to be the one. The final was very good but I studied the old tests in his office, lucky he let me do that or else wouldn't have done as well. I think that I did well enough to get an A. NEVER EVER would I take another class with this guy. The rate he is going we might not get our testgrades back until who knows when.....maybe next year?:chuckle I am hanging with you, contact me any time. I am so exhausted from this stress. Never in my life did I have pain in any of my organs before....yesterday I felt a sharp pain on my left right under my ribcage. Probably gallbladder or something.....my husband wanted to take me to the doc but I downed an "Underberg" and it made it better:roll Hang in there, just a little longer!

That is so wild about the pain! I did end up in the ER a week ago Sunday night with pain in my LRQ - didn't know what it was - ovary, appendix, etc. They finally determined it was an enlarged lymph node and put me on antibiotics for an infection - I almost ask if it was from physio :p

This is terrible that we are allowing this stuff to get to us to this extreme! Well, it will be over soon. I have 3 more class days and one is the final.

Thanks for encouraging - I will keep you up to date on how it goes!
