GRRRRRRR.... Books

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

why is that schools have to make it next to impossible for you to save a few bucks? i was just looking up the cost of books for my two classes this spring. the school bookstore (which is the only way to look up required text) no longer gives you the isbn or even the edition number on books which makes it very hard to order books from another (cheaper!) site!!! i am so frustrated at this! if i can managed to get all used books it is going to be about $318 for just two classes (a&p w/lab and med term)

talk about not being on my good side... sorry for the vent!

Specializes in Hey I'm now an RN!!.
www.campusbooks.com or www.directtextbook.com searches for the cheapest prices for you, and i did get a couple from amazon.com. haven't gotten lucky on ebay yet though:o do a search for "cheap college textbooks" it will give you dozens of sites, i was going to check into some others also but haven't had the time yet. good luck!!!
what websites do you use to get your books? thanks!

I know what you mean! I requested the book list and i bought them all online used, every one of my books look brand new. I saved at least 50% buying them used. I bought them all from half.com, amazon.com, and bookbyte.com Goodluck!

http://www.fetchbook.info/ is my fav. Put your ISBN in and it will come back with a list of all the places that have your book in stock and the price.

hmmmm

Tuition= $412 (for 12 credit hours)

Books= $573 ....

I think someone at Follets is in need of a smack down!!!! :p

Also try looking up the previous edition of the text your instructor is using...most often there's been so few changes that it's crazy to pay the difference for the newest edition.

One semester I bought an earlier edition of the text that my classmates paid $90 for....for less than $10 including shipping and handling!! Sure I had to look up material in the index instead of going by the pages noted in the syllabus but for $80 I'll look up most anything :p It was brand new still wrapped in plastic...heck it even had better colored pictures than the newer text :rotfl:

I also have great luck with half.com.

I bought Contempoary practical nursing ed. 4 , but now we have to have edition five, what could be so different about them. It's a basic book about how to study and your role as a nurse. The book only cost $1.99 but i don't want to go out and buy edition 5 if its the same.

here's a hint-my school is doing that too so you could try to go to the bookstore a month or so before classes starts and find your books and then look them up. another hint that i do is just type in the author and name of the book and then buy the most recent edition because that is what pretty much all professors use is the most recent edition. i use amazon and abebooks.com to buy all my books except the custom-made lab books that are made for a particular class and professor (my microbiology custom-made book cost $60!!!! when it looks like it is worth 20)

The custom made books really gripe me!! I paid 78.50 for a bunch of papers that were shrink wrapped and 3-hole punched. For that price, I want a nice hardbound book. At least give me the binder to put the "expensive paper" in :chuckle

NO KIDDING!!! Its also frustrating when the publisher makes a "new" version and the only thing different is a few facts here and there and conviently the pg numbers! Then when you go to by the book used there are no copies bc they are the "old" version!!!

I always hate the beginning of new quarters/semesters just bc i hate to buy books! I order all of mine online now at either half.com or amazon.com, its amazing the price difference even with shipping!

No joke! This semester, I found an "International Edition" of my A&P book on ebay for like $20.00 ..nobody wanted to bid on it because they were afraid it was wrong or different... I figured what the heck, I'd give it a shot. It is EXACTLY the same... even "american" spelling of words. I'd look for these too. It can save you a LOT of money.

yeah i have always been skeptical of things like that, now ill have to look into it!! I always want to get the old editions bc they are basically the same thing but the page numbers arent the same as in the new edition so id never know where we were...so convenient that two little changes here and there cause the entire books page numbers to change... :uhoh3:
