Fall 2011 Hopefuls

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I know that 2011 seems so far away but it seems like there are a few of us that are working toward this goal so I thought I would start a thread we can all commiserate in. :) I think it will be neat once we get into the program to look back at how far we came :)

I was really hoping to be able to apply for the Spring of 2011 but I think the Fall is more realistic. It seems so far away!! I just started my re-reqs and since I work, I can only take one to two classes at a time.

So tell me more about you!

Specializes in I'm in on a floating NA team so I'm all.

I'm a Fall 2011 hopeful for the Oakland University Accelerated Second Degree Program in Michigan! I have 17 credits to finish before I can start but because they're all pre-reqs of each other I can only take one class per semester. I'll have everything completely done and ready to start in April of 2010 and unfortunately have to sit and wait. They were telling me that they have some openings every semester so I'm hoping that I can slide into one of those! Not likely though :(

I just accepted a job as a Nursing Assistant and I'll be starting there at the beginning of July!!!! I'm so excited about that!!!

I'm hoping for Fall 2011 as well. I just started working on my prereqs this summer (had a couple classes transfer over from a previous degree). I should be finished with the prereqs Fall 2010. Can't apply for the RN program until then. Judging from the current wait list, I'm hoping to be in the program Fall'11, but it could very easily go either direction a semester (or longer out even. UGH!)

What classes are you guys taking now/fall?

I'm in intro to nutrition and intro to psych right now. I'll be trying to test out of an IT class and Algebra end of the summer. And taking A&P 1 and Lifespan psych (and algebra if I don't successfully test out - I had Calculus in college already, but it was too long ago for the credits to transfer. Algebra should be easy!) in the fall.

YAY!! I KNEW I wasn't the only one waiting so long. LOL!

I am currently taking Soci for 6 weeks, then Psych for 6 weeks. In the fall I am taking A&P I and Lifespan too!! (we will have to help each other out! I am TERRIFIED of A&P!!)

Stephanie - have you looked into maybe testing out of some of those pre-reqs? I know some colleges offer that. If you haven't already, it might be worth a visit with an advisor to see if you can. :)

Mamasboyz - I hope to be done with my pre-reqs in the fall of next year too. Unfortunately, that isn't soon enough to apply to the spring program so I have to wait for the next fall. I *might* be able to finish them by next summer but that is only if I squeeze in a couple more classes next spring/summer. On top of working and taking care of my kids, I am not sure if that will work. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long to get in.

If everything goes well with my plan, I should be done by Spring 2010 with all my pre-reqs; so I am hoping to get in the program by 2011. Good luck to all of us!!!

I'm *hoping* to get into the Fall or Winter program 2010, but this is probably unlikely, since the deadline to apply is February 2010, and I'll be finishing up the last of my pre-req's that quarter. I'm going to apply anyway, but the odds of getting into Fall quarter are minuscule and Winter is doubtful but still possible. So realistically, it'll probably Fall 2011, which puts me at class of 2013. :( That feels so far away!

The way things are looking now, the earliest I will able to begin an actual nursing program will be the Fall semester of 2011 also. I have been taking preereqs for the past two years, but have only been able to take one class at a time due to working 40+ hours a week.

I am not taking any classes this summer due to the fact there were no classes offered which fit into my work schedule. I will be taking A&P I with lab in Fall 09 and A&P II Spring 2010. I will then take Microbiology Fall 2010 and Science of Nutrition Spring 2011 and wil be apply to apply for the Fall 2011 semester in Feb 2011.

Oh boy, my first post!

I haven't started school yet; I'm registered, have my classes and have paid for them (OK, put them on plastic!) for Summer Quarter at Clark College in Vancouver, WA. The last piece is to get the State of Oregon UI to approve me going to school, so I can continue to draw unemployment while in school.

Just pre-req's this Quarter. I did a placement test and don't _have_ to take math, but since it's been 30+ years since my last math class - did I mention I am an "adult" student? - I figured Intermediate Algebra (MATH095) would be good, as well as CHEM 50, and the always exciting ENGL 101 rounds it out at 14 credits.

I'm scared to death, and excited. I'm going full time, hopefully with UI income for now and with my S/O's income hopefully carrying us. It's going to be hard, because we have a house payment based on 2 good salary's and I haven't had one since January. OTOH, it seems the perfect time for a carrer change! There are no jobs in my old carrer (Electrical Wholesale) and I cannot just sit around the house hoping something will come up any more.

I am another 2011 hopeful! If all goes well I will apply in the spring of 2011 to try and get into the fall of 2011. Where I will be attending, nursing programs start every fall. I am extremely nervous as well as excited to start. I have never been to college so I will be starting this fall. I need to take four math classes which are 7.5 weeks long. So for the fall of 09 I will be taking two math class, a 4 week college seminar and Intro to biology since it's been a while. I am extremely nervous for the spring of 2010 because I will be taking my third math class which again is 7.5 weeks and I will also be taking Biological Function and Structure class. This Function and Structure class is the A&P class that everyone takes, but instead of it being in two semesters, it's only in one. I guess I just have to take it one class at a time and not get myself too worked up in advance! I am also a SAHM to 4 so this should be an interesting ride!

Specializes in I'm in on a floating NA team so I'm all.

I met with my advisor before I started and the pre-reqs can't be excused unfortunately... It's a bummer!!! I got rather lucky though because my first degree is in Psychology so I don't have any of the psych classes to take!:yeah: If I would have gone for the BS instead of the BA in psych I probably would have been able to apply right to the program with only 3 pre-nursing pre-reqs to take. I wish I could have seen into the future 5 years ago!!!

I'm not sure what I want to specialize in yet. I'm so green to all of this! I have a bunch of friends that are nurses and they tell me they could see me in OR or ICU. I can't see myself in ICU but definitely in OR! I'm really greatful I'm going to be doing an NA pool. The hospital I'm going to be at is huge and has everything so I'll see so much and learn so much before I even start my program and I feel I'll get a good idea of what I really want to do!:yeah:

I wish I could start sooner because for a year and a half I won't be taking any classes... However, in that year and a half it will give me time to make and save up some money for when the program starts! Because it's accelarated it's only a year for my BSN which means it's SUPER intensive... We've been told the people that work during that time don't make it through the program... I'll be contingent at the hospital and when I talked to the manager she told me that I can try to keep my position while I'm in school since it really only requires 3 shifts/month... We'll see what I can manage!!!
