  1. Oakland University in Rochester, MI!!! You have to have at least a 3.0 overall (no lower then a 2.5 in core pre-reqs), write a goal statement and have an interview though. This is the route I'm going because well, I live near by and it's only a year long program as opposed to some of the other ones close to me I looked at that were 15-18 months...
  2. That's not a stupid question... I'm not really sure... It says classes start that Thursday at 7:30 AM so I would think that if you have classes Thursday and Friday you have to go but Monday classes are cancelled. What other classes are you taking in the Fall?
  3. Do it on campus and take it with Prof. Saed or Prof Tillinger! I took Saed for 104. It was an 8AM class and I'm not much of a morning person but he really keep my attention. He tends to "pick" on people during class but if you're in class everyday, paying attention, taking notes, participating in class and doing your homework he won't get on your case. I personally loved having him!!! I've never been good in chemistry and he made it understandable!!! I felt like he really prepared us for the exams by saying in 9 billion different ways the important information! I've heard not everyone likes him but I personally did!! I'm taking Chem 201 this semester with Tillinger and I've only had one class session so far but she seems like she's going to be a great teacher!!! I've also heard from a freidn that took her that she was amazing! Class seems like it's going to be very interactive (we're using iClickers)! I personally learn best that way!!!
  4. I'm getting my BSN from Oakland. I had a friend at Baker and she had a terrible time transfering her credits elsewhere (I believe they're on quarters instead of semesters or maybe it's trimesters?). If you complete your program there then it probably won't matter about transferring credits. I agree with Rose completely, I would definietly go for the BSN if your goal is CRNA. An extra 2 years would be worth it. I'm not much help sorry! Have you looked into other schools in the area like Oakland, Wayne, Macomb (ADN), U of M or Detroit Mercy? What's making you decide between those 3?
  5. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for this!!!! I plan on printing it and carrying it around with me to remind myself every now and again!!!
  6. I have a BA in psychology and I'm doing my pre-reqs for my BSN. It's about 17 credits that I needed to pick up and then I'm going into the program!! Is it a accelerated second that you're looking into? If so, you need to have your bachelor's first in any disipline! You shouldn't have to re-take lower level courses again unless there's any pre-reqs you haven't yet fulfilled! Like you mentioned though, talk to the school you're looking into to see what else you need and exactly how long the wait is. I looked at my prereqs and figured I'd be in by Fall of 2010 too but with the wait I can't start until Fall 2011 :-/
  7. I can totally relate to you! I got my B.A. in psychology after 5 years. Going into school I really thought that was the path I wanted to go into! I was completely backwards in how I took classes and took a good chunk of my required classes for my major before taking all of my gen. eds. While I loved (and still love) psychology I realized going into my senior year that there wasn't much I could do with it (without going further in school) in the actual fields I was interested in. I figured since I was so close to finishing I might as well just go ahead and get the degree and call it a day. I started working for a bank and looked into a bunch of different career paths I could go on with my degree and work experiences (and I have a ton of them!) I had always been interested in nursing but didn't know if I was cut out for it. I hate needles! A lot of my friends went into nursing and have absolutely loved it! It wasn't until a nurse that banks at my work came in and sat at my desk. I began to talk to her about nursing without mentioning it was an option for me. Her face lit up as she went on to talk about how rewarding it is and how she simply loves her job. It was then that it hit me that this is what I need to do! I can get over my fear of needles and I can be an amazing nurse. That same day I enrolled into a A.B.S.N. program!!!! I'm working on my pre-reqs now and I'll be starting the program in the fall of 2011!!! I don't think I would have made it switching my majors at the end of my first degree or even jumping straight into the program after I graduated. I took off 2 years and experienced a lot of life and really found my likes dislikes and myself. I completely agree with Lori!!!! Since you have so many questions, take a little time to decide that nursing really is right for you. Over the next year or so you may discover something that is completely perfect for you! No use in spending more time and money in school if you aren't 100% sure that's what you want!!! Best of luck!!!!
  8. I haven't started there yet. My first day is July 3rd but I've heard it can be pretty bad! LOL! I'll let you know in a few weeks really how bad it can be!!!
  9. So, I know this is an old post but I was searching to find out if I was the only one afraid of needles!!! I have 2 tattoos and I've had 6 piercings in the past (all but my ears have been removed). I had my first shots in probably 20 years the other day (MMR and Hep B) so I could get clearance to start my new job. I got all dizzy and thought I was going to faint but was VERY surprised that I didn't and when she did them I was fine. Not much pain (the MMR burned a little when she did the actual push but not the prick). However, blood draws are the worst!!! When I was younger I had to have some blood work done and the nurse that was doing it must have been new or just a horrible person! I was probably 7 or 8 and she stuck me 6 times in my right arm and couldn't get the vain then she moved to the left arm stuck me another 6 times still couldn't get it then on the 7th time just wiggled it around in there... It makes me weak thinking about it!!!! I know wonder why the heck she didn't call someone else in to try it instead of tramatizing me!!!!
  10. Couldn't agree more!!!! I know it rang true for me that's for sure!!!! My freshman year of college I didn't work all I had was school that's it!!! In high school I worked, I was captain of the dance team, I figure skated and I got really good grades. I figured going to college and just having to focus on school would be a cake walk... I was wrong! I had too much free time and I had NO idea how to balance it because I had NO ONE to answer to except for me! So the freedom of no parents and all that free time was a lethal combination for me! I ended up transfering to a school closer to home, got a job and joined a sorority! Even though I was crazy busy I managed to improve my grades. Sometimes I think I'm rather backwards, when I have all the free time in the world I can't manage to get things done but when I'm crazy busy everything gets done when it's supposed to... Gotta be the ADD! Did you file out a 2008-2009 and a 2009-2010 FASFA? If you didn't do a 2008-2009 form you won't get financial aid for the summer.
  11. I'm also working on my pre-reqs right now and just got hired into Beaumont as an assistant and I'm not certified. So, it is possible!!! Good luck!!!
  12. Based on the state you could try to get it expunged from your record. I know in Michigan they only allow 1 misdemeanor to be set aside as long as you don't have another other convicts of the same offense. Take a look to see what your state's policy is. Most of the time you don't need a lawyer for an expungement because it's just filling out a bunch of paperwork and sending it here then going there then... you get the picture right? For Michigan the paperwork and process was super tedious but worth it to have a clean record!http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/expungement/expungement-state-info.html Also, like others have said check with your school and state board to find out as well! Someone else mentioned that full disclosures are better then finding out after the fact SO true!!! If you don't disclose it in your application they can't fire you/not hire you because you lied on your application. Good luck with everything! It really sounds like you've got your heart in the right place!!!!
  13. I know in Michigan we have the "No Worker Left Behind" program. http://www.michigan.gov/nwlb. It's a nice program (that the state probably doesn't have the money for but I'll leave that for a different forum all together), I'm not sure what other states are offering something similar...
  14. Thank you! No, actually I haven't started NS just working on the pre-reqs. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology already so I don't know if that had any factoring into it. I also let them know that I'm planning on going to nursing school after my pre-reqs and the school that I'm going to is affliated with the hospital I'll be working at. I know the hospitals in my area hire nursing assistants and nurse techs. To be a tech you have to have completed Med/Surg I,from my understanding. From what I've read on the state's website a license is only required to work in a long-term care facility in Michigan.
