Anyone make it into nursing school with below a 3.0 GPA?

I did :)

I stressed EVERYDAY because I had a 2.7 GPA. Scored high on my HESI though. Had alot of people give me the whole "oh i dont know if you will make it..." speech. All I can say is that it depends on who applied along with you for that semester. Or atleast for my school. Keep your head up. If you don't make it, don't give up. Most of my class was held back for a semester to do clincals because of changes within the program. I was really ******, turned out that I really needed that extra time to save money. Things happen for a reason. But not to worry, theres always hope. Keep me posted please :)

One of my best friends got into a LPN program with a 2.7 GPA. She says she doesn't know how she made it but thank God she did. She's now licensed and found a job two weeks after passing the exam. :)

Hey, I got an overal gpa of below 3.0. I graduated with a degree and my overall gpa was only 2.7. I got As and Bs on the prereqs and 85% on the TEAS test.

Hey, as a senior nursing student I can tell you that there were people who made it into my program with less than excellent GPAs. The key is nursing specific pre-requisites ... in which case they pretty much needed to be perfect. I think you've got a good of a shot as anyone with your pre-req grades. Good luck!

It's gonna really depend on the school.

The community college system in Sacramento.... last I knew.... they did LPN slots on a random lottery.

CSUS, Sac State. has a minimum pre-req/co-req GPA requirement of 3.3.

@ 3.3 & and assuming full points on optional criteria and a 97.5% score on the TEAs, the person could have barely squeeked by the 58 point wait list alternate cutoff.

Hey guys,

I added up my possible "points" and came up with 77/100. Do you think that will get me into the RN program at Grossmont? I just got in to their LVN program...but RN is my first pick. Can't wait to see what happens!

I was in a similar situation and the fastest way to improve your gpa is to retake anything you have a C or lower in. I had one course on my transcript that I got a D in and after I had retaken it my gpa went up quite a bit. It seemed nuts to retake a POS 100 level course, but if that's what needed to happen to raise my gpa to help me into nursing then that is what I knew I would have to do. So I did it along with a few others and somehow I went from a 2.5ish gpa hole I'd gotten into after my divorce to a 2.94 gpa at the community college I attended.

Retaking courses sucks, but if you have to and you can afford to, do it because it is better than having your career on hold. I have a 3.4 at my current school, but almost all of my nursing prerequisites came from community college so I'm sure they looked at both transcripts. Many ADN programs have a 2.5 or higher requirement. Sounds like you did well on the HESI and your prerequisite grades are solid so that should help. It is entirely possible, so don't loose faith.
