anyone buy either of these that they loved? my class doesn't start for a few weeks but i wanted to start studying ahead and i know flash cards would be great but there are soo many to choose from!

I'm also trying to decide which study materials I want to get for anatomy. Right now I am considering either the Netter or QuickStudy flashcards and the Marieb coloring book.

I found the coloring book to take more time than it was worth and therefore stopped using it.

I think self-made flash cards are more effective than the ones that you buy. That said, Netter's stuff is very good.

I have the netter flashcards and while I think they will come in handy, I also am a big believer in handmade cards....writing things down in my own words seem to help.

I also own the coloring book....I think it will become more handy down the road as well too.......what seems to be really helping me is the book I bought form Barnes and Noble....A&P the Easy Way.....very simple and easy to both read and understand....lots of practice and review questions....I paid $16.99 for it....it definitely was a good investment.

Watch the Sunday paper for index cards on sale.....I purchased a bunch from Walgreens when they had them 3 pks for a $1 last week....back to school sale

I'm in the process of making my own flashcards using the CliffsStudySolver as a reference. I think for the various bones, muscles, and features, though, I need premade flashcards. I'm not a terrible artist, but not good enough to achieve anatomical accuracy.

I ordered the Netter flashcards yesterday, they were the ones with the best reviews on amazon. I also intend to purchase the netter atlas as recommended by my instructor. I make my own flash cards for definitions and terms (homestasis, superior, ionic bond, ect) and I will use the Netter cards as a visual reference. The coloring book I'm on the fence about right now. Maybe later down the road I will consider it.

i bought the netter's flash cards as well. i thought about buying barron's anatomy flash cards, but amazon gave a better review on the netter cards.

i also went ahead & bought 3 human anatomy coloring books, one is by wynn kapit / lawrence m. elson, a thicker book compare to the other two i bought, which are quiet thin they are by margaret matt.

i believe someone on this board gave a great review on these books.

i've not open my nutter's cards up yet. i'm waiting for a & p to start which for me won't be until fall of 2009.

i thought i would get ahead start on buying some of my books.:yeah:

Netter's flash cards are very helpful. I bought the coloring book but didn't use it. I looked at it a few times, for extra reference. I found that the coloring takes way too long. We never had much time between tests and I didn't find the coloring book to be the best use of time. I got more from outlining chapters and rewriting notes.

If you want to go ahead and start studying I think that would be a wise idea. Read the first 3 or so chapters now... it will help you.

The effective use that I found for the coloring book was as a guide to freehand sketch out certain structures. I found that helped me to remember much more efficiently than did coloring the pictures. Like you, I found coloring to be way too time consuming.

I had Netter's cards and found them very helpful, although others made their own and it helped them learn. I also made some of my own that were not included in the set I had (ie: histology) or not specific to what we were required to focus on. I often did this by photo-copying the graphics from the text at Staples onto card stock.

I also had the coloring book by Kapit and Elson, which I found very helpful too. I didn't color everything in it, but when I needed to study specific systems I often got a better grasp of how each part was interconnected with others. Many times I had an 'a ha!' moment while coloring! I would go over physiology and concepts in my mind while I colored. I remember specifically when the cardiac anatomy and physiology both clicked in my mind--while coloring them.

To me the 16$ I spent on it was well worth it.

i'd never waste my money on coloring books!

just go ahead, get your flash cards done (you learn a whole ton just by putting them together)

then you go to google images, print out diferent pictures of that and name the ares...
