  1. Where can we do a background check on ourselves?
  2. Just being honest but if you can't handle bodily fluids I don't think RT is the way to go either. They are constantly suctioning trach patients and do come in contact with bodily fluids on a regular basis.
  3. Can anyone answer this question though--- Is an RN who has a bachelor's degree in another field (lets say Psychology for arguments sake) equal to a BSN? If someone gets an ASN in nursing after they already have a B.A degree will they be treated the same in the workplace as someone with a BSN? Will they be able to potentially move into a charge nurse or managerial role? If all the hospital wants is a bachelor's degree and you have an BA PLUS an ASN isn't that somewhat equal to someone that has a BSN?
  4. I have been told also that LPNs are being phased out in my state. From what I have heard none of the hospitals are hiring recent LPN grads. I think you need to know what you are getting into before you spend all the time, energy and money to go to LPN school. LPN work in LTC facilities is hard and not for everyone (trust me I have been there done that and I will never go back). Its up to you what you do, but if you want to work in a hospital I think you need to go for your RN. Do you have an ASN program nearby?
  5. How in the world do they handle doing 500 interviews???
  6. You are never to old. The only time it is too late is after you are dead.
  7. Honestly it is sad that these type of people are taking the precious few nursing school seats away from others who might give a darn. I also find it scary that people like this are going into health care and depressing that some instructors are just letting them "squeak" by.
  8. Thank you. That does help!
  9. This is my opinion and is more of a general view of women more so than just nursing students-- don't assume because someone is "older" that she is "mature" or above being catty and juvenile. From what I have seen in my years, many women never outgrow this and tend to get worse as they get older. Keep to yourself and avoid the trouble makers and hopefully soon you will find a like-minded individual you can chat with. I am sorry you are having to deal with this, but I think in a profession dominated by women that this may be the tip of the iceberg.
  10. I know they have a pre-admission work sheet where you can check on how many points you have. Do either of you know if you need to have all of the pre-reques done before submitting the application? I am lacking the communications class and the nutrition class, but would like to apply for next fall.
  11. You are not crazy.. you are scared! Take a deep breath- it is going to be ok! Put that acceptance letter in the mail today. You have come too far and worked too hard to give up now! I know that the night before I started my first pre-requ I sat straight up in bed, having a panic attack and thought to myself -what am I doing?? I can NOT do this! Well I got up the next morning and forced myself to go and have never looked back! You have to face your fears or else you will regret not taking this amazing opportunity you have been given. Report back once that lette is in the mail!
  12. I hate to say this, but if you think bones are hard wait until you cover muscles. There are about a bazillion, and you generally need to know origin and insertion of each one.
  13. You need to get into the mindset that this is about YOU. I am concerned that you used her notes and relied on her to help you get through the class. I think your DH is right and is giving you very wise advice. It's one thing to make some study buddy friends and its another to NEED someone to help get you through. You may need to brush up on your note taking skills, or invest in some sort of voice recorder so you can record the lectures, but you need to think about you and let her live her life. She may decide that she doesn't want to take classes next semester.. where would that leave you? You are depending on her too much. I'm sorry to be harsh, but you need to move on and focus on yourself. You can do this.
  14. Look into academic renewal. Your school may or may not offer it. They require a certain number of credit hours that count towards a "new" GPA and your old GPA is wiped away. Call the registrar and find out if they do this. Also about doing the LPN- its worth looking into. I know a lot of people go this route and it works for them. It would allow you to work after you get your LPN and then bridge over to your RN. RN bridge programs are generally easier to get into as there tends to be less competition. And you will NOT be too old! Just look at my age! LOL.. and I'm not even in NS yet and there is no way I consider myself too old!
  15. Netter's flash cards are very helpful. I bought the coloring book but didn't use it. I looked at it a few times, for extra reference. I found that the coloring takes way too long. We never had much time between tests and I didn't find the coloring book to be the best use of time. I got more from outlining chapters and rewriting notes. If you want to go ahead and start studying I think that would be a wise idea. Read the first 3 or so chapters now... it will help you.
