Accelerated BSN programs for those with no degree.

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Is there such a thing as an accelerated BSN program if you do not all ready have a BS or BA? Like a program where you have to have all co-reqs and pre-reqs and other courses done before applying so all you do in nursing school is nursing. Idealy it would run over the summer and be between 15-18 months straight. If there is such a thing let me know as all I can find are 18 month programs for people with degrees.

Every Accelerated BSN program I have looked into has been for persons that already have a bachelors degree in any field. The accelerated programs are usually only about a semester shorter than the regular 2 years you would spend on the nursing portion of your degree. If you have any college credit, look into regular BSN programs instead. While I do not know the ins and outs of every particular program, what you are looking for does not exist. If you do not already have a degree, your best bet would be to go for a BSN, or just do an RN associates and do some kind of bridge program later when it matters more if you are BSN/RN. I started volunteering at a hospital today...you could try doing that to gain some insight into which would be best for you.

I am looking at and currently applying to some BSN programs which are all 2.5 school years or 24-28 months to complete. Aside from the UW in WA I have not been able to find any regular BSN programs that are only 4 semesters instead of 5! Oh well, it's worth the time to learn it right! Especially since I will be able to work as a nurse tech after the first term to expand on being a CNA.

Most of the schools I've seen are 4 semesters long but they usually include a summer break which is why it is longer than the ABSN programs. University of Maryland is one specifically that I can think of but I know I've seen others.

Accelerated programs are for those who already have a non-nursing bachelor's degree. Even with that, the one in my area goes for 4 semsters straight + intercession classes to get the BSN. Not for the faint of heart!

Yeah it sounds like Accelerated BSN programs just eliminate summer semesters and perhaps inolve more classes or intercession classes like CDEWannaBe said.

For nursing students, what are summers like? Do you have them off, or are they for clinicals?

There are accelerated BSN programs out there even if you don't already have a Bachelors.

I am finishing up one now.

Resurrection University in Oak Park, IL (outside Chicago) is a 4 semester (straight through summer) for the day program and a 5 semester Evening/Weekend program, also straight through summer. Some of my cohort already have a bachelors degree, but half of them do not. We began in Aug 2010 and we graduate in the first week of May. We only had a week off in between semesters and 3 weeks off for Christmas. It is a very intense program, but 3 of us have full-time jobs, so it can be done.

HI fgreen,

Thank you for the information! So the day program is a total of 16 months and the night program is 20 months? Is it a private school? How is tuition/financial aid? If I don't get into my top picks for this fall I am going to try applying if I can afford it!

Thanks again

Tn has one. Union University. It is 15 months for both those with and without a Bachelors degree.

Some of them compress the time more though. The ABSN I went to was 12 months with a month off over Christmas,so 11 months of coursework.

18-Month Accelerated Nursing Program - Hartwick College

18 months with the prerequisites done, no previous bachelor's required, expensive but alas.

So I know this comment was made in 2012 but this information can help future people looking. Yes! There are schools that offer accelerated nursing programs with no degree. I will tag the ones I know of below

There are probaly more but I would have to further continue my research.
