A&P Help... From My Brain to Yours!

So I've gotten several requests for copies of my AP notes...so here they are. These are all the ones I could find, so it's not EVERY body system... just most. Nursing Students Pre-Nursing Article

Please do not consider these notes to be the "end-all-be-all". I am human and YES, I make mistakes. Also, I urge you to take your own notes during the lecture. These are provided as supplemental information only. I have also included here my top 10 tips for getting an A in A&P.

Tip 1: Read (at least skim) the chapter before going to class.

Your brain works best on repetition. Reading before helps prep your brain to learn what will be in the lecture.

Tip 2: Take your OWN notes.

Even if the professor provides notes...take your OWN.

Tip 3: As soon as you can, rewrite or type your notes.

Supplement your notes with your professor's notes and your book. Anything you don't fully understand then GOOGLE is your friend.

Tip 4 When writing up your notes, write them in your own words.

Try to paraphrase and use language like you were trying to explain this stuff to your best friend.

Tip 5: Utilize additional resources.

My Marieb and Martini books came with online goodies such as art labeling, crossword puzzles, flashcards and quizzes. THEY HELP!

Tip 6: Practice lab exams.

To practice for lab exams I did two different things (aside from staying in lab until the end of the period every single time) and they both require an atlas or printed diagrams. With my atlas, I put little post-it tabbies over the names. I then numbered each tab. Then I made an answer key and repeatedly quizzed myself until I could get them all right. Another method is to white out the names on your diagram and put it in a sheet protector. Now you can label and relabel using a dry-erase marker.

Tip 7: Re-organize information.

Sometimes it helps to think of things from a different angle. See my list of muscles for an idea of how I did this.

Tip 8: Condense Notes.

Every week or at the end of every unit, go back through your notes and try to condense them down. Do this again until you can get ALL the key concepts onto ONE piece of paper. I used a sketch pad that measured 11x17...draw pictures, make lists...whatever you need to do to trigger access to the information.

Tip 9: Talk Talk Talk.

Yes, anatomy is pure memorization, but physiology is all about understanding. Sometimes the best way to understand is to talk it out. If you have no one to listen to you, talk to your cat or talk to yourself. Talk through the concepts from beginning to end.

Tip 10: Have fun! ?

Thank you for posting these notes! I am no longer in school, but these are great to have as a study tool!!!

YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me, when I would come home after a loooong day at school the last thing I wanted to do was type of my notes. But now I am soooo glad I have them. I definitely need to refresh my memory before NS starts. It is amazing how much of this stuff is but a distant memory. Yikes!

Again thank you so very much for posting them. They are excellent!!! I would love to have the files that you mentioned were too large to attach on here. I will wait for a while to send you the request in your inbox, as I am sure you are getting dozens of emails. God bless you and much continued success to you!!

Take care!

I think I love you. LOL Those are extremely helpful.

Wow, you're amazing! And the timing couldn't have been better - I've got my first A&P exam on Monday over Marieb chapters 1-3, and these notes will be great to help study. My teacher lectures sooo fast that my own notes are full of scribbles and half-words. I've seriously got to figure out how to smuggle in a banned voice recorder, but in the meantime, THANK YOU!

I'm glad you are finding them useful...just be sure to write your own notes in your own words. I can't stress that enough...it really does help!

GOOD LUCK!

My teacher gave us a half-page review sheet (because we've had to miss two days of class due to Labor Day and a broken water main), and I typed that up on my computer and saved it. Then I filled it in as best I could off the top of my head. I saved that, opened the blank copy again, and now I'm filling it out with the information from your notes (in my own words). After that, I'll save it, open a blank copy, and answer all the questions from memory again. Then I'll go through with my scattered notes, try it again from memory, go through with my textbook, try it again from memory, etc.

My goal is that every time will result in a longer and longer document, hopefully going up to one page per question. He told us that 80% of the test would be over those concepts, so if we know all that stuff backwards and forwards, we'll get at least an 80. Of course, an 80 is not nearly good enough, so after I get all this down perfectly, I'll move on to everything else in the chapters! And then I get to move on to learning the 5 lessons for my lab quiz, also on Monday night. Fun!

I've already warned my husband that I will not be doing housework this week.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :yeah:
